In 2008 (a year after he left the college) Thorpe was drafted by Austin Toros (D-League) in eighth round (113th overall). The former University of Houston standout is in his 14th (!!!) season in pro basketball. Thorpe is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to eleven different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). Thorpe has played previously professionally in China, Denmark (Randers), Finland (FoKoPo and Vilpas), France (Saint Brieuc), Germany (BG Goettingen), Luxembourg (Esch), Mexico, Philippines, Japan (Hitachi Sunrockers, Iwate, Osaka Evessa, Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo and Link Tochigi Brex Utsunomiya), TPBL (Houston B.) and Vietnam (Saigon Heat). Among many awards Thorpe's team won Danish Cup in 2011. He received also Asia-Basket.com All-ASEAN League 2nd Team award back in 2012. He is close to retirement age as a player. It may be one of last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Saga Ballooners.
