Saga Ballooners (B2 League) inked experienced 36-year old American forward Jahmar Thorpe (198-84, college: Houston). He is not a newcomer in Japanese League as he played most recently at Kawasaki Brave Thunders in Japanese B1 League. Thorpe managed to play in three leagues last year (!!!). B1 League was a little too high level for him, where in 11 games he averaged just 1.7ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.0apg. B2 League will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. Thorpe helped them to make it to the cup final. He also played for Kumamoto Volters that season. In 5 B2 League games he had 12.0ppg, 9.8rpg and 2.0apg. The other team Thorpe played that season for was Tokyo Hachioji Trains (B3 League). In 11 games he recorded 12.5ppg, 7.5rpg, 2.0apg and 1.2spg.
In 2008 (a year after he left the college) Thorpe was drafted by Austin Toros (D-League) in eighth round (113th overall).
The former University of Houston standout is in his 14th (!!!) season in pro basketball.
Thorpe is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to eleven different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). Thorpe has played previously professionally in China, Denmark (Randers), Finland (FoKoPo and Vilpas), France (Saint Brieuc), Germany (BG Goettingen), Luxembourg (Esch), Mexico, Philippines, Japan (Hitachi Sunrockers, Iwate, Osaka Evessa, Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo and Link Tochigi Brex Utsunomiya), TPBL (Houston B.) and Vietnam (Saigon Heat).
Among many awards Thorpe's team won Danish Cup in 2011. He received also Asia-Basket.com All-ASEAN League 2nd Team award back in 2012.
He is close to retirement age as a player. It may be one of last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Saga Ballooners.
