Chinese Taipei hold off Jordan to clinch FIBA Asia Cup quarters berth

Chinese Taipei fended off a pesky Jordan team as they marched on to the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, 78-64, at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Monday night, Manila time. After failing to breakaway in the first half, Chinese Taipei rode a hot third quarter to extend their lead to double digits, 60-47, off of a Adam Hinton (193-G-2003) dunk with 2:21 ticks left in the period. But Jordan wasn’t about to make things easy. A 13-3 run bridging the end of the third and early in the fourth quarter got Jordan within three of Chinese Taipei, 60-63, after a split from the charity stripe from Tucker Dar (193-SG-1988, college: DePaul) with 5:22 ticks left in the ball game. But back-to-back triples from Chen Ying-Chun (182-PG-1993, college: Liberty) dampened the blistering run. While Abbaas continued to push the issue and keep Jordan within striking distance, Adam Hinton and Chen were able to drain key baskets that stopped the momentum for Jordan as time ticked. Chen scored on a layup that proved to be the dagger, 74-64, with 1:36 left in the game. Adam Hinton and Chen were the top two scorers for Chinese Taipei with 18 and 15 points, respectively. Gilbeck Brandon (213-C-1996, college: W.Illinois) added nine points, 12 rebounds, and seven blocks. Tucker paced Jordan in the losing effort with 20 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Chinese Taipei thus seal a clash against Iran in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, August 13.
