the prize. China triumphed at the tournament and got the direct
promotion to the 2012 London Olympic Games. China and Jordan exchanged

South Korea - Philippines

South Korea snatched a tough win over Philippines in the consolation
final battle at the Asian Championship.
Cho Sung-Min (189-F-83) scored 20 points to pace the winners.
Philippines gained a 14:7 lead after ten minutes of action.
Jimmy Alapag (177-G-77, college:
Cal.St.-San Bernar.) gave the Filipino team an 18:7 lead midway
through the second term. They maintained the lead and arrived at the
interval up by as many as 7 points 24:17. Williams made it 30:19 for
Philippines early in the third term. South Korea answered with a 9:1 run
to cut the deficit. Philippines however picked up the slack and earned a

Iran celebrated a comfortable win over Lebanon on the final day of the
Asian Championship. The former champions cruised past Lebanon to clinch
the fifth overall position in the ladder. Samad Nikkhah and
Mahdi Kamrani (186-PG-82) posted 18 points each to lead the effort.
Lebanon got to a better start to the game. They established a 17:15 lead
after ten minutes. But Iran shifted the gear in the second frame. They
unloaded 35 points to build a 50:36 halftime lead. The teams exchanged
baskets in the third term. Iran secured a 14-point buffer before the
fourth term. Iran limited Lebanon to only 10 points in the fourth
quarter to seal the victory.

Japan capped their Asian Championship campaign with victory. They
outscored Taiwan to clinch the seventh overall position.
Kosuke Takeuchi (206-C/F-85) posted 16 points and 22 rebounds to
lead the charge. Japan stunned their opponents in the opening frame.
They outscored Taiwan 28:9 in the starting ten minutes. Taiwan adjusted
their offence in the second frame. They answered with 27 points of their
own to cut the margin to 11 points at the interval. But Japan picked up
the tempo in the third term. They slowed Taiwan down and maintained the
lead well. Japan entered the fourth quarter up by as many as 13 points.
Taiwan narrowed the gap to just 6 points 63:69 but Japan hung on to
escape with victory at the end.

China overcame South Korea in a low-scoring battle tonight to join
Jordan in the Asian Championship title game.
Jianlian Yi (212-C/F-87) stepped up with 17 points and 12 rebounds
to pace the hosts. South Korea will take on Philippines for the Bronze
medals. South Korea ensured a slightly better start to the game. They
limited the home team to just 8 points in the opening frame to take a
3-point lead. South Korea led throughout the bigger part of the second
frame before China capped the half on a 7:2 run to take a 21:19 lead.
The hosts opened the second half with six points in a row to stretch the
lead. China maintained the lead and posted a 36:30 advantage with ten
minutes to go. South Korea never got closer than four points in the
final quarter as China rolled to the victory.

Syria stole the advantage late in the first half. They registered a
43:39 halftime lead. Syria stayed in front throughout the third stanza.
Goran Milijevic team secured a 6-point lead with ten minutes to go
59:53. The margin grew at 8-point mark early in the fourth quarter. UAE
got within a single points midway through the final term but Syria

winners. Malaysia grabbed the initiative right from the start. They
secured a 22:14 lead after ten minutes. Malaysia maintained the lead
throughout the second period. The scoreboard read 45:33 for Cheng Huat
Goh team at the interval. But Uzbekistan managed to revive the intrigue
in the third quarter. They cut the deficit to just 5 points at the final

in a row and seemed to be well in control of their fate in this one. But

to boost the margin. Kazemi triggered an 8:2 run from Iran late in the
half as they eked out a 36:35 lead. But Jordan quickly regained the lead
in the third period. The teams went neck and neck throughout the third
term. The lead changed hands before Haddadi and Samad Nikkhah made it
62:57 for Iran with ten minutes remaining. Haddadi and Samad Nikkhah

Malaysia to improve at 3-2 record in Group E.

effort. Taiwan occupied the third spot in the group advancing into
quarterfinals. Malaysia on the other hand fell at 1-4 record and came
short of reaching the playoffs. Taiwan scored 24 points in the opening

suffered the first defeat at the tournament and would now face Japan in
quarterfinal. Iran stormed into the game. They outscored South Korea

after the first 10 minutes. China led 31:18 after 15 minute and enjoyed
47:28 at the halftime. Syria actually started to play better in the
second half and matched well the Chinese squad. The latter managed to
add 23-21 in the third quarter, while Syria won the last period 22-20.
China scored 16 Fast Break Points, while their opponents only 2.
Jianlian Yi (212-C/F-87) top-scored for the winners with 19 points
and Su Wei scored 14.

Poedjakesuma and Sitepu combined for 50 points to edge Bahrain at the
FIBA Asia Cup. Indonesia overcame Bahrain 85:62 in the
Classification Round for 13-16 places. Bahrain shocked the opponents
with 10-0 run and kept them scoreless for the first five minutes.
Moreover the underdogs enjoyed 17:12 after the first 10 minutes of the
game. It looked that Indonesia started to wake up and only 1-point lead
remained on the board with 5 minutes left in the half. After 24-17 in
the second period Indonesia grabbed 36:34 halftime advantage. In the
rest of the game they managed to dominate the court. Indonesia won the

Lebanon past Malaysia. So the winners climbed at 2-1 record in Group A,
while Malaysia slipped at 1-2. It was practically all over for Malaysia
in the opening frame. Lebanon went on a 27:8 rally to secure a
comfortable buffer after ten minutes. Malaysia did not surrender and cut
the deficit to 16 points at halftime. But the difference was too obvious
as Lebanon regained composure and stretched the gap to 27 points at the

Malaysia recorded the initial win at the 2011 Asian Championship. They
overcame India to improve at 1-1 record in Group A.

on the other hand slipped at 0-2 record after the loss. Malaysia
strongly entered the game. They registered a 13:4 lead midway through
the opening period. But India gradually picked up the tempo and
eventually trailed by just two points 13:15 at the first break. India
almost erased the deficit but Malaysia stepped on the gas late in the
second term. They poured in 27 points in the second frame to ensure a
42:26 halftime lead. India grabbed the initiative in the third term.
They dominated the period cutting the deficit to just 4 points with ten

fourth frame. But Malaysia answered with a crucial 9:3 outburst that

Uzbekistan - Taiwan

Taiwan registered the first win at the Asian Championship in Wuhan. They
fired past Uzbekistan for 1-1 record in Group B.
Tsung-Hsien Chang (192-G-88) stepped up with 15 points to lead the
effort. Taiwan opened the game with nine straight points. They stretched
the gap to 10 points 12:2 shortly after. Taiwan secured a 24:14 lead
after ten minutes of action. Taiwan kept their opponents at bay
throughout the second frame. They established a 45:36 halftime
advantage. Uzbekistan cut the deficit to just 6 points midway through
the third term 45:51. However Taiwan immedialy answered with a 6:0 surge
to restore a safe cushion. They entered the fourth quarter up by 17
points 67:50. Taiwan stayed well in charge throughout the fourth frame
and cruised to the victory at the end.

Qatar lost another game by default at the Asian Championship in China.
The team could not enter the second frame and lost 4:40 with less
players remaining in the court then the rules require. Qatar scored the
first 3 points in the game. Salem later made it 4:6 and those points
were the last for his side. Iran closed the game with massive 34-0 run
and grabbed the second straight win. DAVOUDICHEGANI nailed three for the
final result. The game was stopped at the end of the first period with 2
minutes left when Saad got his 5th foul. Qatar have only 7 players in
this competitions because they hired some American Players to play in
their NT team but the rules say each of this players must to spend at
least 2 years in this country so that they be able to play for the NT
team.

Walsh, OH) stepped up with 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the
charge. Indonesia fell at 0-2 record after the loss. Syria pulled in
front late in the opening frame. They recorded a 17:13 lead after ten
minutes of action. Indonesia stepped on the gas early in the second
frame. They grabbed a 27:23 lead but could not capitalize. Syria sneaked
back in charge taking a 34:33 advantage. Syria strengthened their
advantage in the third quarter. They built a 54:45 buffer with one
quarter remaining. Syria boosted the margin to 17 points midway through
the fourth period and never looked back en route to the victory.

Japan celebrated the second win at the 2011 Asian Championship. They
prevailed against Jordan in a tough battle in Wuhan to stay undefeated
in Group C.
Takuya Kawamura (193-G-86) scored 23 points to pace the effort.
Jordan opened the game with a strong 13:2 run. But Japan recovered and
surged ahead for a 19:17 lead after ten minutes of action. The lead
changed hands before Japan unloaded 8 points in a row and posted a 36:27
lead late in the first half. Japan tipped off the second half with 15
unanswered points to grab a 51:29 lead. Japan stayed in control and

Philippines - China

Philippines lost to China in Day 2 of the 26th FIBA Asia Championship
2011. The hosts of the tournament beat the opponents 75:60 in
Preliminary Round - Group A. China led 7:6 in the opening tip of the
game and improved to 22:13 after the first 10 minutes. The second
quarter was a disaster for Philippines that scored only 8 points. China
managed to take 43:21 advantage and never looked behind. Philippines
however dominated the second half. They won the third frame 19-12 and
then tied the score in the fourth quarter at 20-20. That was however
enough only to reduce to 15 points.
Jianlian Yi (212-C/F-87) led China with 20 points and 17 rebounds.
Wang ZhiZhi (214-C-77) collected 16 points and 5 rebounds, while
Yue Sun (206-G/F-85) added 15 points and 7 rebounds. Zhu Fangyu had

drubbed Bahrain to climb at 1-1 record in Group D.
Ibrahim Ahmad (179-G-79) scored 17 points to lead the effort Bahrain
slipped at 0-2 record after the loss. Bahrain ensured a brave start.
They led 12:7 midway through the starting frame. Bahrain posted a 17:16
lead ten minutes into the game. But UAE turned things around in the
second frame. They limited their opponents to just 10 points in the
quarter to establish a 37:27 advantage at the interval. UAE maintained
the lead throughout the third stanza. UAE boosted the gap to as many as

South Korea earned the opening win at the 2011 Asian Championship.
Hur Jae team coasted past Malaysia in Group A action.
Cho Sung-Min (189-F-83) stepped up with 16 points to lead the
effort. South Korea stunned their opponents in the opening period. They
held Malaysia to miserable three points in the quarter posting a 29:3
lead after ten minutes. The margin grew at 30-point mark midway through
the second frame. South Korea established a 47:22 lead at halftime.
South Korea continued to remain in charge throughout the third frame.
They posted a 76:30 lead with ten minutes to go in the game. South Korea
did not loosen the grasp and earned a well-deserved win at the end. Oh
Sek-Eun chipped in 13 points, while
Lee Jung-Suk (184-G-82) and Tae-Jong Moon netted 11 points apiece in
the win.
Yoong Jing Kwaan (200-C-90) answered with 9 points and 9 rebounds
for Malaysia.

Lebanon - India 71-68
Lebanon earned the first win at the 2011 Asian Championship. They
overcame a major scare from ambitious India to escape with a narrow win
at the end.
Jean Abed El Nour (198-F/G-83) stepped
up with eight points in the final moments of the game to propel Lebanon
to a tough win at the end. He finished with game-high 24 points to pace
Lebanon.
Lebanon ensured a 20:16 lead after ten minutes of action.
Bassel Bawji gave Lebanon a 37:27 lead

outmuscled Taiwan in Group B opener.

opened the game with a 6:1 run to jump in front. Iran stayed in charge
posting a 10:8 lead after ten minutes. Taiwan surged ahead late in the
second term and posted a 19:17 halftime advantage. Taiwan used an 11:1
run in the third term to post a 30:20 advantage. However Iran reacted
with a 19:1 rally of their own to take a 39:31 lead early in the fourth
frame. Taiwan cut the deficit back to just two points but Iran answered
with ten points in a row and sealed the victory at the end. Hamed
Haddadi posted 8 points and 18 rebounds, while
Arsalan Kazemi (199-F-90) had 8 points in the winning effort.

BYU-Hawaii) responded with 15 points for Taiwan. Lin Chih-Chieh
delivered 8 points in the loss.
Qatar - Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan started their 26th FIBA Asia Championship with the victory
over GCC champions. Qatar lost Group B game by default 12:27. Qatar
started the game with five players. They committed five personal fouls
in the first six minutes of the game. Denisov opened the scoring account
in the game, while Matalkeh gave Qatar 2:1 lead. Saad also remained
Qatar in front at 5:3, while
Evgeniy Shatrov (192-G-86) scored for 7:5. The latter also brought
11:7, while Juginisov Samender closed an 11-0 run for his side. Saad
nailed three for 18:10, while Uzbekistan erupted with another 9-0 run.
Matalkeh scored for 27:12 and then he received his last fifth foul.
According to Art 21 of Official Basketball Rules 2010, 'a team shall
lose a game by default if, during the game, the team has fewer than two
players on the playing court ready to play.
Evgeniy Shatrov stepped up with 10 points for the winners and
Juginisov Samender nailed 9.

Jordan opened win count at 2011 Asian Championship in Wuhan. They held
off pesky Syria in Group C opener.
Rasheim Wright (192-G-81, college:
District of Col.) stepped up with 20 points to pace Jordan. Jordan
managed to post an 18:12 lead ten minutes into the game. But Jacques
Nalbandian drained 8 points in a 10:2 run from Syria early in the second
term as they jumped into lead. The teams traded baskets before
Wael Jlilati (199-G/F-90) knocked down 8 points in a row giving
Syria a 36:31 lead at the interval.
Wael Jlilati opened the second half with two points as Syria
established a 40:31 advantage. But Jordan stepped on the gas late in the
period. They capped the period with a 13:1 rally to grab a 56:46 lead
with ten minutes remaining. Syria cut the deficit to just two points
midway through the fourth frame 58:60. However
Rasheim Wright came up with a timely three-pointer and Jordan ran
away for the victory in the final minutes.

game. They limited Indonesia to only 8 points in the starting quarter to

SEABA champions won over United Arab Emirates at their start of the 26th
FIBA Asia Championship. Philippines won all the quarters to taste 92:52
victory. United Arab Emirates surprised the opponents with 5-0 run early
in the game, while Barroca scored for 7:7. Philippines celebrated 17:12
after the first 10 minutes and had 29:18 midway through the second
period.
Marcus Douthit (211-F/C-80, agency:

Providence) later sent the teams to the lockers at 41:22. The third
quarter proved the ambitions of the winners for a bigger advantage as
they produced 28-13 in it. Another 23-17 in the last stanza brought the
40-point deficit win for Philippines in the opener. Baracael Marnel
stepped up with 15 points for the winners and
Pauliasi Taulava (208-C-73) collected 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Bahrain - China

Bahrain returned to FIBA Asia Championship after 14 years and lost the
opener of the 26th Asia Championship. China destroyed Bahrain 101:49.
Bahrain stayed tough in the opening period and trailed only 13:16 after
the first 5 minutes. China grabbed 25:20 lead at the end of 10 minutes
and erupted later in the game. The defensive 24-6 in the second quarter
was too much for Bahrain. China had 22-0 run and continued their
dominance in the second half as well. The board showed 62:35 after 25
minutes of the game and China enjoyed 77:45 after three quarters.
Another defensive 24-4 in the last stanza brought the first victory for
China.
Jianlian Yi (212-C/F-87) and Liu Wei paced all the winners with 15
points each, while
Zhu FangYu (201-F-83) netted 13.
