Women's Asia Cup returns to China with Shenzhen confirmed as host

The FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2025 will be hosted in Shenzhen, China from 13-20 July 2025, as announced by the FIBA Regional Office - Asia on Thursday, March 7. This is the fourth time China is hosting the region's flagship women's national team competition. However, this is the first time that the Women's Asia Cup will be hosted in Shenzhen. The city of Shenzhen also hosted the Draw of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 and was the host city for Group G during the Group Phase of the competition. Additionally, the U18 Women's Asia Cup 2004 was held in Shenzhen and the city will host the 2024 edition of the competition. The previous years that the Women's Asia Cup was hosted in China were 2015 (Wuhan), 2005 (Qinhuangdao), and 1984 (Shanghai). "As we confirm Shenzhen as the proud host of the FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2025, we celebrate the return of China to the forefront of basketball in the region," said FIBA Executive Director - Asia, Mr. Hagop Khajirian. "This reflects not only China's rich basketball heritage but also its unwavering commitment to advancing the women's game. We look forward to an event that will inspire generations of athletes and fans alike." As one of China's most populous cities and a leading global technology hub, Shenzhen will serve well as the platform for the best national teams and women's basketball players in the region. The city's blend of technological prowess and cultural richness will contribute to putting on display the stars of the rapidly growing women's basketball scene. "With its passionate basketball community, we are looking forward to seeing Shenzhen provide an unparalleled experience for players and spectators," added Khajirian. After winning Women's Asia Cup 2023 in an exciting Final against Japan, China will now be focused on winning a second consecutive title on their home soil. If ever, it would be the second time China win a Women's Asia Cup as hosts, with the last time being in 2005. Over the past 29 editions of the competition, the host nation have won the Women's Asia Cup four times. China are now tied with Korea as all-time leaders in Women's Asia Cups won, with 12 titles in total. The battle for promotion to the top division, the FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2025 Division B, will also take place in Shenzhen.
