Japan clinch title in Bangkok - Nov 3, 2013

FINAL
South Korea - Japan 43-65
Japan celebrated the Asian Championship title. They overcame South Korea to clinch the first trophy since 1973. Ramu Tokashiki (191-C/F-91) stepped up with 20 points and 14 rebounds to pace the winners. Japan held their opponents to 11 points in the first frame. Japan capitalized taking an 8-point lead after ten minutes. The gap kept on growing throughout the second quarter. Japan limited the Korean team to just 5 points in the period and established a 37:16 halftime lead. South Korea came back to life in the third term. They picked up the tempo and cut the deficit at 14-point mark heading into the fourth term. But Japan went on a 17:9 rally in the final frame and sealed the win at the end. Yuka Mamiya (185-F-90) accounted for 19 points and 9 boards, while Yoshida added 9 points in the victory. Beon Yeonha (180-F-80) responded with 12 points for South Korea. Jung-Ja Sin chipped in 8 points in the loss.
3-4 Place
China - Taiwan 61-53
China clinch Bronze in Bangkok at the Asian Championship. China posted a 61:53 win in the game for the third place and grabbed third FIBA Asia berth to Turkey. Both teams scored 11 points each in the first period and then China grabbed 4-point lead at the halftime. The favorites posted a 19-15 rally to take 30:26 halftime advantage. Moreover China managed to win last two quarters. They won the third period 16-15 and finished the tournament with a 15-12 rally. Gao Song (188-PF-92) top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Ji YanYan (182-G-85) nailed 12. Wen Lu and Chen Nan followed them with 7 points each. Huang Ping-Chen (178-F-89) ended up with 14 points in the losing effort and Huang Ying-Li (170-G-89) produced 12. Wu Yi-Ting delivered 8, while Chun-Yi Liu brought 7.


Japan and South Korea enter the Final in Bangkok - Nov 2, 2013

SEMIFINAL
Japan - Taiwan 74-56
Japan continue undefeated rally and head to the Final of the 25th FIBA Asia Championship for Women. The league-leaders posted a 74:56 win over Taiwan and will take on South Korea tomorrow in a Big Final. Taiwan will take on China in the game for the third place. Japan entered the game without losses and produced an 8-4 rally in the opening tip. They increased to 24:10 lead at the end of the first period and never looked behind. Japan increased to 40:22 at the halftime and secured a 52:32 lead at the end of thirty minutes. Taiwan managed to win the last stanza and reduced to final 18 points. Ramu Tokashiki (191-C/F-91) stepped up with 17 points and Yuka Mamiya (185-F-90) as well as OGA Yuko posted 15 each. Asami Yoshida (165-PG-87) notched 9, whilst MIYAMOTO Michiko scored 8. TSAI Pei-Chen ended up with 19 points in the losing effort and HUANG Ying-Li produced 14. HUANG Ping-Jen delivered 9 and CHEN Yu-Chun had 5.

China - South Korea 66-71
There will be a new champion in Asia. South Korea edge the defending champions China tonight in the semifinal clash in Bangkok. Beon Yeonha (180-F-80) scored 22 points and issued 6 assists to lead the winners. China dropped 22 points in the first frame and opened a 4-point lead. But South Korea slowed their opponents down in the second frame. They cut the deficit at 2-point mark 36:34 at the interval. China were back in the drivers seat in the third term. They held the Korean team to 12 points in the third quarter and secured a 6-point advantage before the fourth frame. But the Korean side turned things around in the final period. Yeon Ha Beon notched five points late in regulation to give South Korea a 68:64 lead. Ji YanYan (182-G-85) put China within two points but Kim Jung Eun (180-F-87) drained a three-pointer to seal the victory for the Korean side. She finished with 11 points, while Sin Jung Ja contributed 14 points for the winners. Chen Nan responded with 23 points and 7 rebounds for China. Gao Song (188-PF-92) had 14 points in the loss.


Playoff
India - Malaysia 74-59
India overcame Malaysia to stay at Level I position for the next edition of Asian Championship. Jeena Skaria (94) stepped up with 24 points to pace India past their opponents today. India set the tone early in the game. They went on a 22:12 rally in the opening quarter. India maintained the lead throughout the second frame. They ensured a comfortable 40:28 halftime advantage. Malaysia stopped the rot in the third quarter. They cut the distance at 9-point mark at the final intermission. But India stayed in control. They posted 20 points in the fourth frame and sealed the victory at the end. Anna-Jose Geethu chipped in 21 points and collected 13 boards, while Anitha Pauldurai (169-G-85) added 14 points for India. Hui Pin Pang, Suik May Kew (172-F-82) and Eugene Ting produced 10 points each for Malaysia.

Kazakhstan - Thailand 53-67
Thailand head to Level I for the next edition at the Asian Championship. The hosts of the 25th FIBA Asia Championship for Women posted a decisive 67:53 win over Kazakhstan and took their spot at Level I. The latter will start again from level II in the next edition. Thailand started the game with a 21-13 lead and had 29:25 halftime advantage. Thailand continued their dominance in the second half and posted two victories for the final result. They won the third period 16-9 and finished the game with a 22-19 rally. Yothanan Penphan top-scored for the winners with 13 points and Juthamas Jantakan (174-G-85) as well as Banmoo Naruemol poured in 12 each. Chirdpetcharat Chonticha posted 11, whilst Kunchuan Supavadee added 10. Alishauskaite Anastassiya produced 10 points in the losing effort and Dots Yelena as well as Oxsana Ossipenko (186-F-85) delivered 9 each. Demidenko Yuliya and Baidussenova Zhuldys ended up with 6 points in a loss.

Group A
South Korea - Taiwan 58-63
Taiwan spoiled the final day of the preliminary round of South Korea. The Taiwanese team overcame their opponents but five points to catch up with them at 3-2 record in the ladder. Taiwan will face Japan, while South Korea will take on China in the semifinal round of the tournament. Taiwan gained a 19:14 lead after the opening quarter. South Korea narrowed the distance in the second frame. They got within 3 points at the interval 33:36. The Korean team got even closer in the third term. They held Taiwan to just 7 points in the period and entered the final frame trailing by just one point 42:43. But Taiwan improved offensively in the fourth quarter. They dropped 20 points in the final stanza and sealed the victory. Chen Yu-Chun (176-F-87) finished with 13 points for Taiwan. Chun-Yi Liu, Tsai Pei-Chen, Huang Ping-Chen and Wu Yi-Ting had 9 points each in the victory. Beon Yeonha (180-F-80) responded with 23 points for South Korea Lee Mi Sun chipped in 10 points in the defeat.

China - Japan 55-62
Japan finished their preliminary round campaign on a high note. They held off defending champions China to maintain their perfect record at 5-0. China fell at 3-2 record in the ladder. Ramu Tokashiki (191-C/F-91) stepped up with 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the winners. Japan snatched a 12:9 lead after a tense first frame. The Japanese team stayed aggressive defensively throughout the second quarter. They held China to just 9 points in the period and opened up a 7-point halftime lead 25:18. China stepped on the gas in the third term but Japan were there to match the effort. They dropped 25 points in the quarter and ensured a 12-point advantage before the fourth term. China outscored their opponents in the final frame but failed to overcome the deficit. Yuka Mamiya (185-F-90) finished with 15 points, while Aoi Ariake had 9 points in the win. Chen Nan (197-C-83) responded with 16 points for China. Wen Lu had 11 points in the losing effort.

India - Kazakhstan 65-62
India needs overtime to beat Kazakhstan at a real thriller of the start of the last day at the Preliminary Round of Asian Championship. India posted a 65:62 win and improved to 1-4 record. Kazakhstan suffered their fifth defeat in a row. Both teams realized the importance of the game. At first Kazakhstan grabbed an 8-2 lead, while India enjoyed a 16-14 lead at the end of the first period. India improved to 35:24 later in the half, but Kazakhstan tied the score at 45:45 after 30 minutes. The score was also tied at 55:55 after 40 minutes, while India needed a 10-7 run in overtime to seal the victory. Anitha Pauldurai (169-G-85) top-scored for the winners with 18 points and Jeena Skaria (94) nailed 14. Singh Prashanti produced 9, whilst Geethu Anna-Jose had 6. Ivanova Oxana collected 16 points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort and Alishauskaite Anastassiya as well as Vinokurova Anna posted 14 each. Baidussenova Zhuldys ended up with 4 points in defeat.

Group B
Hong Kong - Thailand 59-70
Thailand recorded another victory at the home Asian Championship tonight. They overcame Hong Kong to clinch the top position in Level II standings. They will now take on Kazakhstan for the place in Level I. Thidaporn Maihom (170-F-93) recorded 20 points to lead the winners. Thailand claimed a 16:6 lead after ten minutes of action. Hong Kong however narrowed the gap in the second frame. The visitors cut the distance to just 7 points at the final intermission. Thailand were back in control in the third term. They opened an 8-point lead at the final break. The home team dropped 18 points in the fourth period and sealed the victory. Penphan Yothanan (170-C-83) netted 19 points, while Juthamas Jantakan added 12 points for the winners. Cheuk Ting (166-PG-89) and Wong Tsz Ching (160-PG-89) responded with 14 points each for Hong Kong.

Indonesia - Philippines 60-54
Indonesia edge Philippines, both finish with 3-2 records at the Preliminary Round of the Asian Championship. Indonesia posted a 60:54 win on Thursday morning in Bangkok. Indonesia started the game with a 21-15 run and added 20-18 rally in the second period. They won the third quarter 10-8 and increased to 10 points after 30 minutes of the game. Philippines did their best to recover and managed only to win the last stanza. They posted a 13-9 surge in it, while Indonesia won the game by 6 points. Yuni Anggraeni (175-F-84) paced all the winners with 15 points and Christaline Nathasa netted 14. Jacklien Ibo (178-C-90) scored 12, whilst Ayuningrum Wulam had 9. Joan Grajales (162-G-79) ended up with 12 points in defeat and Arayi Merenciana as well as Jacob Melissa notched 11 apiece. Borja Chovi, Tiu Denise and Almazan Analyn netted 5 points each in a loss.

Malaysia - Uzbekistan 63-41
Malaysia outscore Uzbekistan in Bangkok at the Asian Championship. They finished Level II with a 4-1 record after a comfortable 63:41 win. Uzbekistan ended up with 1-4 record. Malaysia won the first period 21-17 and added defensive 11-8 rally in the second period. Moreover Malaysia dominated the second half and came up with another two wins. They won the third period 16-9 and finished the game with a 15-7 result. Beng Fong Goh (165-G-82) top-scored for the winners with 10 points and Siew Teng Ang (174-F-87) nailed 9. Fook Yee Yao, Ting Eugene and Yap Ching Yee followed them with 8 points each. Lyudmila Komarova (192-C-93) replied with 16 points and 14 rebounds in a loss, whilst Khusnidinova Elena added 7. Zakharova Marina chipped in with 5 points in the losing case.

Taiwan - China 63-85
China rout Taiwan in Bangkok at the end of Day 4 of the Asian Championship. China improved to 3-1 record after an 85:63 win. Taiwan meanwhile fell at 2-2 record on the fourth place. Taiwan surprised China with a 19-17 rally in the first period, but could not keep the lead. The Chinese team erupted with a 27-7 surge in the second frame and never looked behind after. China added 20-10 rally in the third period and did not mind 21-27 run from the opponents in the last quarter. Gao Song (188-PF-92) and Chen Nan top-scored for the winners with 17 points each. Huang Hongpin netted 10, while Wen Lu scored 8. Wu Yi-Ting (175-F/G-91) finished the game with 14 points in the losing effort. Tsai Pei-Chen (186-C-84) chipped in with 11 and Chun-Yi Liu delivered 9.

Japan - India 81-40
Japan roll over India for the 4th straight win at the Asian Championship. The Level I leaders posted an easy 81:40 win and improved to 4-0 record. India meanwhile fell at 0-4 record and will take on Kazakhstan tomorrow in the game of winless teams. Japan erupted with a 15-2 run and won the first period 24-8. The favorites enjoyed a 36-15 advantage midway through the second period and had 43-18 lead after the first half. Japan also opened the third period with a 10-2 run and increased to 65:28 after three quarters. The favorites managed to seal a 41-point win at the end after a 16-12 rally in the fourth quarter. Ariake Aoi top-scored for the winners with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Kumiko Oba (169-G-88) netted 11. Miyamoto Michiko and Miyazawa Yuki scored 10 each, while Mamiya Yuka netted 9. Anna-Jose Geethu (185-C-85) answered with 14 points in the losing effort. Sidhu Raspreet scored 9, whilst Subramani Kokila (165-G-88) poured in 4.

Kazakhstan - South Korea 56-92
South Korea clinched the third victory at the Asian Championship. They rolled past Kazakhstan for 3-1 record. Park Hye-Jin stepped up with 34 points to pace the winners. South Korea did not waste too much time to jump in front. They recorded a 22:10 lead after ten minutes of action. The Korean team maintained the advantage throughout the second quarter. They ensured a 43:29 halftime advantage. Kazakhstan stalled offensively in the third term. They scored just one point to trail by as many as 38 points at the final break. South Korea never looked back afterwards cruising to the victory. Kim Danbi (180-F-90) provided 18 points for the winners. Kang Young Suk (186-C-81) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the victory. Yulia Demidenko (163-PG-77), Anna Vinokurova and Oxana Ivanova (188-C-90) finished with 10 points each in the loss.

Thailand - Indonesia 75-61
Thailand improved to 3-1 record in Level II of the Asian Championship. The hosts of the competition posted a 75:61 win over Indonesia on Wednesday. The latter dropped at 2-2 record. Both teams entered the game with the same record. Indonesia trailed in the opening tip, but won the first period 18-13. The hosts however played better in the rest of the game and managed to seal the victory. They grabbed a 32-27 lead at the halftime and then increased to final 14-point victory. Naruemol Banmoo (185-C-87) stepped up with 15 points and Yothanan Penphan nailed 14. Jantakan Juthamas delivered 12, whilst Maihom Thidaporn had 10. Christaline Nathasa replied with 18 points in defeat and Wulam Ayuningrum (174-G/F-85) netted 13. Ibo Jacklien produced 11, whilst Anggraeni Yuni shot 8.

Uzbekistan - Hong Kong 70-62
Uzbekistan recorded the opening win at the Asian Championship. They rallied past Hong Kong for 1-3 record in Level II standings. Lyudmila Komarova (192-C-93) stepped up with 20 points and 11 rebounds to pace the winners. Hong Kong eked out a 14:13 lead after ten minutes of action. Uzbekistan denied the deficit and evened things up at 27 after twenty minutes. The Uzbek team fired 26 points in the third term to clear off. They gained a 9-point advantage heading into the fourth term. Hong Kong outscored their opponents in the final period but could not avoid the defeat. Elena Khusnidinova netted 14 points and issued 7 assists for the winners. Cheuk Ting (166-PG-89) responded with 16 points for Hong Kong. Lo Hiu Fong (175-PF-89) netted 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the loss.

Philippines - Malaysia 56-60
Malaysia toppled Philippines in the Asian Championship Level II action today. The winners were paced by 17 points from Beng Fong Goh. Both teams are now tied at 3-1 record in the ladder. Philippines accumulated a 17:11 lead after ten minutes of action. But Malaysia picked up the tempo in the second period. They narrowed the gap at a single point 31:30 at the interval. Malaysia spurred ahead in the third term. They held Philippines to just 5 points in the period and accumulated a 13-point lead at the final intermission. Philippines fired 20 points in the fourth term but could not avoid the defeat at the end. Shin Min Yong (174-F-87) netted 14 points for Malaysia. Hui Pin Pang (176-F-90) had 8 points in the victory. Melissa Jacob responded with 17 points for Philippines. Analyn Almazan chipped in 16 points in the loss.

Level I
China - India 97-36
China recorded the second straight victory at the Asian Championship. They defeated India in Bangkok today. Ji YanYan (182-G-85) stepped up with 16 points to pace the defending champions. It was all about China in this one. They recorded a comfortable 27:8 lead after ten minutes of action. China stayed dominant throughout the second frame. They secured a 46:19 halftime advantage. There was no stopping of China in the third term. The reigning champions ignited a 25:7 run to open a massive 45-point lead heading into the final frame. China finished the game on a 26:10 run to seal the win. Sun Mengran (197-C-92) and Gao Song (188-PF-92) had 14 points apiece in the victory. Anna-Jose Geethu (185-C-85) responded with 11 points for India. Jeena Skaria and Smruthi Radhakrishnan had 4 points each in the loss.

South Korea - Japan 71-78 OT
Japan needs overtime win over South Korea to take the throne with a 3-0 record. Japan grabbed a 78:71 win and remained undefeated. South Korea meanwhile suffered their first loss and dropped at 2-1 record. The game was the top one at the end of Day 3. South Korea won the opening tip, but then Japan grabbed a 24-20 lead at the end of the first period. The board showed later 34:34 at the halftime and the teams continued their perfect performance until the rest of the game. They were tied at 69:69 going to overtime and only there japan pushed the tempo for good and sealed a 78:71 win. Ramu Tokashiki (191-C/F-91) top-scored for the winners with 27 points and 10 rebounds, while Michiko Miyamoto (175-G/F-86) and Asami Yoshida (165-PG-87) netted 15 each. Mamiya Yuka followed them with 10 points in a win. Beon Yeonha (180-F-80) ended up with 17 points in a loss, whilst Sin Jung Ja and Lim Yung Hui brought 14 points each. Kim Jung Eun scored 11, whilst Yang Ji Hee nailed 10.

Taiwan - Kazakhstan 87-57
Taiwan keep Kazakhstan winless at the Asian Championship. They posted an 87:57 win for 2-1 record in Level I. The Kazakh team meanwhile fell at 0-3 record. Taiwan started the game with an 8-2 run and then had only 15-14 lead at the end of the first period. They pushed the tempo in the second frame and grabbed 39-26 halftime advantage. Moreover Taiwan increased to 55-29 midway through the third period and led 15 points after 30 minutes. They increased to final 30 points as they won the last quarter 30-15. Indonesia clinched the second victory in Bangkok. They toppled Uzbekistan to improve at 2-1 record in Level II standings. Wulam Ayuningrum (174-G/F-85) stepped up with 18 points to lead the winners. Indonesia got to a very confident start. They went on a 24:10 run in the opening quarter. Indonesia extended their lead in the second frame. They opened a 43:21 halftime lead. Uzbekistan struggled to get any closer in the third quarter. Indonesia ensured a 24-point cushion before the final period. Uzbekistan went on a 21:8 run in the fourth frame but it was too late to rescue the game. Hanum Fasta (165-PG-90) netted 12 points, while Jacklien Ibo contributed 11 points and 8 rebounds for Indonesia. Lyudmila Komarova (192-C-93) responded with 15 points for Uzbekistan. Malaysia celebrated the second win at the Asian Championship in Thailand. They outgunned Hong Kong for 2-1 record in Level II ladder. Yee Yao Fook (174-F-93) had 21 points to pace the winners. Malaysia earned a 19:11 lead after ten minutes of action. They maintained the lead throughout the second frame. Malaysia secured a comfortable 40:20 halftime advantage. Philippines became the leader of Level II after the third straight win at the Asian Championship. They overcame Thailand 65:59 and improved to 3-0 record. The hosts of the tournament fell at 2-1 record. Both teams won the first two games of the tournament and looked forward remaining undefeated. Philippines started with a 17-11 rally and had 34:24 advantage at the halftime. They increased to 50:33 lead after thirty minutes and led 17 points with 5 minutes to go. Thailand meanwhile erupted in the last 5 minutes and reduced to final 6 points. Both teams won the openers of the tournament and looked forward achieving the second straight win. Japan won the opening tip 10:7 and led 22:13 at the end of the first period. Moreover Japan pushed the tempo in the second frame and grabbed a 42:24 halftime advantage. Taiwan meanwhile looked better at the end of the game as they closed it with a 12-3 run. South Korea gained the second straight win at the start of the Asian Championship. They overwhelmed India for 2-0 record. Park Hye-Jin accounted for 26 points to pace the winners. Kazakhstan meanwhile fell at 0-2 record. China took 15-7 lead midway through the opening period and closed the frame with a 27-9 run. They grabbed 41-15 early in the second period and enjoyed a 55:27 advantage at the halftime. Moreover China continued their dominance in the rest of the game and reached 41-point win. Cheng Feng and Gao Song top-scored for the winners with 16 points each, while Ji YanYan nailed 14. Wen Lu and Zhao Shuang had 11 each, while Sun Mengran (197-C-92) posted 10. Hong Kong slipped at 0-2 record after the loss. Indonesia set the tone early in the encounter. They used a 19:8 run to clear off early in the game. Indonesia maintained the lead throughout the second frame. They established a 37:24 halftime advantage. Indonesia boosted the margin in the third term. They went on a 21:10 rally in the third quarter and opened a comfortable 24-point cushion before the fourth term. Indonesia never looked back in the final quarter cruising to the win. Thailand - Malaysia 60-56
The hosts achieve the second straight win at the Asian Championship in Bangkok. Thailand posted a 60:56 win over Malaysia to take 2-0 record in Level II. Thailand started the game with an 11-4 run, but could not score in the last 5 minutes of the first period and allowed the guests to tie the score at 11:11. The latter trailed in the second period as well, but then took 26:25 lead at the halftime. The third period was decisive in the game when Thailand took the lead back and increased to 49:42 after 30 minutes. They managed to keep the victory although Malaysia reduced to final 4. Banmoo Naruemol and Penphan Yothanan (170-C-83) stepped up with 16 points each, while Chirdpetcharat Chonticha nailed 15. Mathuros Juthatip followed them with 7 points in a win. Pang Hui Pin ended up with 12 points in the losing effort, whilst Ang Siew Teng had 11. Siew Fun Lee (186-C-87) scored 8 and Ting Eugene brought 6.

South Korea victoriously opened their Asian Championship campaign. They defeated the defending champions China in thriller today. Kwak Joo-Young (185-F/C-84) nailed a buzzer-beating jumper to propel the Korean side to the win. South Korea recorded a 17:14 lead after the starting quarter. They stayed in front throughout the second term. The Korean team established a 34:29 halftime lead. South Korea maintained their advantage in the third term. They dropped 21 points and secured a 6-point lead heading into the final stanza. But China denied the deficit in the fourth term. Zhao tied things up at 70 with 16 seconds to go. But Kwak Joo-Young came up with a buzzer-beater to win the game for South Korea. Kim Jung Eun (180-F-87) came up with 19 points to pace the effort. Kwak Joo-Young Joo-Yeong added 13 points, while Lim Yung Hui added 11 points in the win. Wen Lu (188-F-90) responded with 24 points for China. Chen Nan added 10 points in the loss.

Taiwan gave a warm welcome to India at the Asia Championship. The Taiwanese team overwhelmed their opponents for the opening win in Bangkok. Wu Yi-Ting (175-F/G-91) scored 18 points to pace the winners. Taiwan quickly cleared off in this one. They went on a 27:10 run to open a comfortable lead. Taiwan stayed in front throughout the second term. They established a 51:30 halftime advantage. India struggled offensively throughout the third term. Taiwan capitalized building a 28-point buffer entering the final term. The teams traded baskets throughout the fourth period as Taiwan cruised to the victory. Japan open Level I with the win over Kazakhstan at the Asia Championship. Japan posted a comfortable 94:59 win in Bangkok. Kazakhstan tired hard in the opening period and managed to stay tough against the opponents. Japan won the first period 20-16 and then however erupted in the second frame. The favorites reached 58:31 at the halftime and continued their dominance in the rest of the game. The board showed 74:42 after three quarters and then Japan closed the game with a 35-point win. Ramu Tokashiki (191-C/F-91) stepped up with 15 points for the winners and Yuka Mamiya (185-F-90) nailed 14. Oga Yuko produced 12, whilst Michiko Miyamoto had 11. Malaysia beat Indonesia in Bangkok at the FIBA Asia Championship for Women. They needed a final push at the end of the game for 61:49 victory in Level II.
