Japan defend title in Wuhan - Sep 5, 2015

FINAL
China - Japan 50-85
Japan defended their Asian Championship title. They stormed past hosting China in Wuhan tonight to clinch the trophy. Japan secured the Olympic Games birth with the success. Sanae Motokawa (175-F-92) scored 24 points to lead the winners. Ramu Tokashiki (191-C/F-91) added 18 points and 7 rebounds and was named the MVP after the game. Japan led from start to finish in this one. They rallied to a 44:22 halftime advantage. Japan followed with a strong 24:12 run in the third term to post a 34-point lead at the final break. They never looked back afterwards cruising to the victory. Chinatsu Yamamoto finished with 16 points for the champions. Chen Xiaojia (177-PG-88), Sun Mengran (197-C-92) and Wen Lu (188-F-90) responded with 7 points each for China.
3-4 Place
South Korea - Taiwan 52-45
South Korea stepped onto the pedestal in Wuhan. They knocked down Taiwan to clinch the Bronze medals at the Asian Championship. Kim Danbi (180-F-90) scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to pace the Korean team. South Korea accounted for a 13:6 lead after ten minutes. Taiwan narrowed the distance 6-point mark at the interval. But South Korea held their opponents to just 24 points in the second half and marched to the victory. Lee Kyung-Eun (176-G-87) delivered 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Huang Ping-Chen (178-F-89) responded with 11 points for Taiwan.


China and Japan advance into Final in Wuhan - Sep 4, 2015

SEMIFINALS
China - South Korea 60-45
China clinched the Asian Championship Final appearance. They beat South Korea in the semifinal clash tonight. Huang Hongpin (196-C-89) scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the winners. China claimed a 31:16 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 25-point mark at the final break and never looked back en route to the victory. Sun Mengran (197-C-92) delivered 9 points for the winners. Yang Ji Hee (186-C-84) responded with 12 points for South Korea.

Japan - Taiwan 65-58
Japan outgunned Taiwan to seal Final appearance at the championship. Ramu Tokashiki (191-C/F-91) and Sanae Motokawa (175-F-92) scored 15 points each for the winners. Japan opened a 23:11 lead after the first period. However Taiwan went on a strong rally in the next two quarters to take a 3-point lead at the final intermission. But Japan responded with a 22:12 rally in the fourth term to seal the win. Maki Takada (183-F/C-89) had 6 points and 7 rebounds for Japan. Bao Hsi-Le (196-C-90) responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds for Taiwan.
Relegation
Thailand - North Korea 50-66
North Korea posted the crucial victory at the Asian Championship. They beat Thailand to secure Level I promotion. Hyang Jong (173-F-92) came up with 21 points to lead the charge. North Korea spurred ahead for a 29:24 halftime lead. They boosted the margin at 11-point mark at the final intermission. North Korea dropped 20 points in the fourth term and sealed the winning outcome. Hyon Ok Sin (171-F-88) tossed in 16 points for the winners. Naphat Kruatiwa (171-C-88) responded with 16 points for Thailand.

India - Philippines 76-82
Philippines fired past India to ensure Level I promotion. Afril Bernardino (165-G-91) tossed in 32 points, grabbed 5 boards and issued 5 assists to lead the winners. India grabbed a 22:16 lead after the openign frame. Philippines spurred ahead for a 39:37 halftime lead. They boosted the gap at 12-point mark at the final intermission. India cut the deficit in the fourth term but could not avoid the defeat. Allana Lim (175-F-88) accounted for 20 points and 9 rebounds in the victory. Jeena Palanilkumkalayil (178-F-94) responded with 28 points and 6 rebounds for India who got relegated into Level II.


Semifinals are set in Wuhan - Sep 2, 2015

Group A
China - Taiwan 76-62
China raced to the fourth victory in Wuhan. The hosts beat Taiwan for 4-1 record in the second position in Group A. Chen Xiaojia (177-PG-88) delivered 17 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort. China unloaded 26 points in the second term to build an 8-point lead. China followed with a 16:10 run in the fourth term to seal the victory. Shao Ting (183-F-89) tossed in 15 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for the winners. Chang Chi-Fang (174-G-93) answered with 13 points for Taiwan.

Thailand - Japan 43-95
Japan outgunned Thailand to remain undefeated at the championship. Sanae Motokawa (175-F-92) scored 16 points to lead the winners. Japan built a 50:19 halftime lead. Japan used a massive 27:6 run in the fourth term and rallied to the victory. Yukia Miyazawa netted 15 points and made 6 steals for the winners. Thidaporn Maihom (170-F-93) responded with 15 points for Thailand.

India - South Korea 44-121
South Korea earned the third victory in Group A. They cruised past India to gain 3-2 record. Kim Danbi (180-F-90) stepped up with 20 points to lead the winners. South Korea accounted for a 67:20 halftime lead. They unloaded 54 points in the second half and coasted to the victory. Park Ji-Su (188-C-98) provided 19 points in the win. Jeena Palanilkumkalayil (178-F-94) responded with 15 points and 9 rebounds for India.

Group B
North Korea - Hong Kong 66-43
North Korea outgunned Hong Kong and sealed their promotion round appearance. Suk Yong Ro (181-C-93) posted 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the winners. North Korea opened a 36:20 halftime lead. They held Hong Kong to just 23 points in the second half and marched to the win. Hyang Jong (173-F-92) delivered 12 points in the victory. Cheuk Ting (166-PG-89) responded with 27 points for Hong Kong.

Sri Lanka - Malaysia 33-57
Malaysia finished the Asian Championship campaign on a high note. They trounced Sri Lanka to earn 3-2 record in Group B. Yin Yin Chong (166-G-93) scored 8 points to lead well-balanced effort from the winners. Malaysia opened a 29:12 halftime lead. They went on a 16:9 run in the fourth term to seal the win. Fook Yee Yap (174-F-93) tossed in 7 points in the victory. Inoka Pedige (160-G-82) responded with 12 points for Sri Lanka.

Kazakhstan - Philippines 73-80 OT
Philippines survived an overtime drama against Kazakhstan and advanced into Level I playoffs. Merenciana Arayi (170-G-85) came up with 28 points to lead the winners. Philippines eked out a 33:32 halftime lead. Kazakhstan picked up the tempo in the third term. The Kazakh team recorded a 6-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. But Philippines limited their opponents to just 8 points in the fourth stanza and forced overtime. Philippines knocked down 17 points in the extra period and sealed the winning outcome. Allana Lim (175-F-88) finished with 17 points in the victory. Tamara Yagodkina and Oxana Ossipenko (186-F-85) responded with 19 points each for Kazakhstan.

South Korea earned the second straight victory in Wuhan. They knocked down Taiwan for 2-2 record in Group A. Park Hye-Jin (178-G-90) scored 17 points to pace the winners. South Korea accounted for a 24:8 lead at the first break. The Korean team boosted the gap at 25-point lead at the final intermission and never looked back en route to the win. Kim Jung Eun (180-F-87) and Yang Ji Hee (186-C-84) provided 12 points apiece for the winners. Wu Ying-Chieh (179-F-92) and Lin Yu-Ting (183-F-94) responded with 14 points each for Taiwan.

Japan - China 57-56
Asami Yoshida sank a late jumper and Japan upset hosting China at the Asian Championship today. Ramu Tokashiki (191-C/F-91) scored 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the winners. Japan piled up a 37:31 halftime lead. China narrowed the gap in the third term. The hosts eventually spurred ahead in the fourth quarter. Hongpin Huang gave China a 56:55 lead late in regulation. But Asami Yoshida converted a bucket and sealed the victory for Japan. Yuka Mamiya (185-F-90) posted 9 points and 9 rebounds in the win. Shao Ting (183-F-89) responded with 15 points for China.

India - Thailand 63-65
Thailand snapped three-game losing skid in Wuhan. They nipped India for 1-3 record in Group A. Naphat Kruatiwa (171-C-88) stepped up with 21 points and 7 rebounds to lead the winners. Thailand opened a 21:14 lead after ten minutes. India however erased the deficit in the next two periods. The teams entered the fourth frame tied at 48. Thailand however went on a 17:15 run in the final term and got away with a narrow win. Thidaporn Maihom (170-F-93) accounted for 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Jeena Palanilkumkalayil (178-F-94) responded with 21 points for India.

Group B
Malaysia - North Korea 45-83
North Korea cruised past Malaysia for the third victory in Wuhan. Hyang Jong (173-F-92) stepped up with 29 points and 7 rebounds to lead the winning side. North Korea piled up a 43:21 halftime lead. They boosted the margin at 30-point mark and never looked back en route to the win. Suk Yong Ro (181-C-93) had 12 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Chiau Ting (180-C-92) responded with 12 points for Malaysia.

Philippines - Hong Kong 75-62
Philippines knocked down Hong Kong for 3-1 record in Group B. Allana Lim (175-F-88) stepped up with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to pace the effort. Philippines used a 26:13 run in the second term to open a 14-point halftime lead. They extended the margin at 18-point mark at the final intermission and never looked back en route to the win. Camille Sambile (177-F-92) notched 19 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. Cheuk Ting (166-PG-89) responded with 17 points for Hong Kong.

Kazakhstan - Sri Lanka 78-50
Kazakhstan posted the third victory at the Asian Championship. They fired past Sri Lanka to improve at 3-1 record in Group B. Tamara Yagodkina and Zalina Kurazova (185-F-85) netted 13 points each to pace the winners. Kazakhstan posted a 21:9 lead after the opening frame. Sri Lanka narrowed the gap at 8-point mark at the interval. But Kazakhstan sparked a strong 39:19 second half rally to ice the win. Anna Vinokurova had 9 points and 9 rebounds in the victory. Herath Enanayake (162-G-89) responded with 17 points for Sri Lanka.

China - India 102-39
China registered the third victory at the Asian Championship. The hosts fired past India to stay undefeated. Gao Song (188-PF-92) posted 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. China built a 47:15 halftime lead. China unleashed 55 points in the second half and coasted to the victory. Huang Sijing (192-F-96) netted 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the winners. Jeena Palanilkumkalayil (178-F-94) and Poojamol Kochuparambu (185-C-96) had 10 points each for India.

Taiwan - Japan 44-60
Japan recorded the third consecutive victory at the Asian Championship. Chinatsu Yamamoto (175-G/F-91) scored 14 points to pace them past Taiwan. Japan got to a slow start. They trailed by 7 points after the first period. But Japan used a strong 25:8 rally in the second frame to gain a 33:23 halftime lead. Taiwan pulled within 4 points at the final intermission. But Japan held their opponents to just 6 points in the fourth term and raced to the victory. Mio Shinozaki (167-PG-91) netted 10 points for the winners. Peng Szu-Chin (163-G-91) responded with 10 points for Taiwan.

Thailand - South Korea 41-97
South Korea snapped losing skid in Wuhan. They edged Thailand for 1-2 record in Group A. Kang Ajung (180-F-89) stepped up with 30 points to pace the Korean team. South Korea opened a comfortable 45:17 halftime lead. They unloaded 52 points in the second half and raced to the victory. Park Ji-Su (188-C-98) delivered 12 points and 13 boards for the winners. Aungkana Buapa (169-G/F-93) responded with 9 points for Thailand.

Group B
North Korea - Kazakhstan 68-55
North Korea held off Kazakhstan to improve at 2-1 record on top of Group B. Suk Yong Ro (181-C-93) posted 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead the winners. North Korea accumulated a 40:24 halftime lead. North Korea boosted the gap at 18-point mark at the final intermission. Kazakhstan cut the distance in the fourth term but could not avoid the defeat. Hyon Ok Sin (171-F-88) netted 21 points for the winners. Nadezhda Kondrakova (190-C-89) responded with 16 points and 9 rebounds for Kazakhstan.

Hong Kong - Malaysia 61-78
Malaysia recorded the second victory in Group B. They held off Hong Kong for 2-1 record. Fook Yee Yap (174-F-93) nailed 24 points to pace the winners. Malaysia accounted for a 41:25 halftime lead. Hong Kong narrowed the gap at 13-point mark at the final intermission. Malaysia responded with a 23-point effort in the fourth term and sealed the victory. Hui Pin Pang (176-F-90) netted 18 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and issued 5 assists for the winners. Cheuk Ting (166-PG-89) responded with 21 points and 11 rebounds for Hong Kong.

Sri Lanka - Philippines 45-65
Philippines toppled Sri Lanka for the second straight victory in Wuhan. Shelley Gupilan (172-G-91) scored 15 points to pace the winning side. Philippines used a strong 22:6 run in the second frame to gain a 16-point halftime lead. Philippines accounted for 29 points in the second half and marched to the win. China recorded the second consecutive victory in Wuhan. The hosts outgunned South Korea for 2-0 record in Group A. Shao Ting (183-F-89) scored 17 points to lead the winners. South Korea jumped to an 18:15 lead after the opening frame. China however responded with a strong rally in the second half. The hosts sparked a 47:29 rally to seal a comfortable victory. Chen Xiaojia (177-PG-88) finished with 14 points for China. Bae Hye-Yoon (182-F/C-87) and Eun-Kyung Lee responded with 10 points each for South Korea.

Japan - India 131-31
Japan posted the second straight victory at the Asian Championship. They knocked down India to remain on top of Group A. Mio Shinozaki (167-PG-91) scored 25 points to lead the winners. Japan accumulated a 63:21 halftime lead. They never looked back en route to the victory afterwards. Al Mitani (182-F-78) chipped in 16 points for the winners. Bhandavya Hemmige (163-F-98) responded with 6 points for India.

Taiwan - Thailand 113-42
Taiwan claimed the second victory in a row in Wuhan. They stormed past Thailand for 2-0 record. Wei Yu-Chun (176-G-92) stepped up with 21 points for the winning side. Taiwan opened a 55:18 halftime lead. They sank 58 points in the second half and raced to the win. Lin Yu-Ting (183-F-94) netted 17 points for the winners. Thidaporn Maihom (170-F-93) responded with 13 points for Thailand.

Philippines - North Korea 68-67
Philippines nipped North Korea to gain the opening victory in Wuhan. Allana Lim (175-F-88) and Cindy Resultay (167-F-90) tossed in 14 points each for the winners. North Korea ensured a narrow 35:30 haltime lead. But Philippines went on a strong 24:15 run in the fourth period and iced the win. Suk Yong Ro (181-C-93) responded with 21 points and 11 rebounds for North Korea.

Malaysia - Kazakhstan 65-73
Kazakhstan toppled Malaysia to improve at 2-0 record in Group B. Oxana Ossipenko (186-F-85) stepped up with 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Kazakh team. Malaysia built a 20:14 lead ten minutes into the game. But Kazakhstan responded with a 36:18 run in the next two quarters to spur ahead. Hong Kong outgunned Sri Lanka to celebrate the first victory in Group B. Lam Pik Yi (162-PG-89) and Wong Tsz Ching (160-PG-89) came up with 21 points to lead the winners. Hong Kong eked out a 38:35 halftime lead. They followed with a 26:5 rally in the third term and cleared off for good. Ka Yee Wong had 12 points for the winners. Herath Enanayake (162-G-89) answered with 15 points for Sri Lanka.
