Malaysia overcame Mongolia for the initial win in Group A in Division B of the Asia Cup 2023. Malaysia finished with a 1-2 record after an 85-68 victory. Malaysia opened the game with a 22-18 run and added massive 32-10 surge in the second period. Mongolia meanwhile scored 20 points in the third and the last stanzas to reduce the gap to 17 points.
Fook Yee Yap (174-F-1993) stepped up with 20 points and Suet Ying Foo (174-G/F-2000) poured in 17. Ariuntsetseg Bat-Erdene (180-C-2001) collected 14 points and 10 rebounds in defeat, whilst Nyamjav Nandinkhusel (177-F-2006) poured in 10.
