Australia entered the Final game in Jakarta beating New Zealand 85-76 at the FIBA Asia Cup. Australia opened the game with a 23-19 run and added massive 26-18 rally in the second period. New Zealand tried to recover in the second half. Both teams nailed 17 points each in the third quarter and New Zealand won the last stanza 22-19. It was not however enough to stop the defending champions from the title game.
Thon Maker (216-C-1997) top-scored for the winners with 18 points and William McDowell-White (196-G-1998, college: Fresno St.) netted 15. Tyrese Proctor (187-G-2004) and Mitchell McCarron (189-G-1992, college: MSU Denver) followed them with 13 points apiece. Jordan Hunt (205-F-1997, college: S.Oregon) and Samuel Timmins (211-F/C-1997, college: Washington) replied with 16 points each in a loss.
