Japan clinched fifth straight title at the Fiba Asia Cup 2021. In the Final game they edged China 78:73 and remained perfect.
China grabbed an early lead with a 21-19 and added a 19-18 run in the second frame. Moreover they led 5 points with 10 minutes to go, however could not seal the win. Japan erupted with a 12-0 start and held China scoreless for 4 minutes put them back in the ascendency.
Saori Miyazaki (167-SG-95) top-scored for the winners with 26 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds. Monica Okoye (182-C/F-99) scored 21 and Stephanie Mawuli (181-C-98) delivered 13. Sijing Huang (192-PF-96) replied with 18 points in a loss and Yueru Li (201-C-99) had 16.

Australia claimed their third straight podium place at the FIBA Women's Asia Cup. Tonight they edged Korea 88-58 to keep the bronze medals.
Australia took the lead from the start and nailed 24 points in the first period. They added a 23-10 run in the second period for a 47-32 halftime advantage. Moreover, Australia won the third quarter 19-12 and closed the game with a final 22-14 rally.
Samantha Whitcomb (178-G-88, college: Washington) was unstoppable with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Darcee Garbin (187-F-94) netted 14, whilst Keely Froling (188-F-96, college: SMU) and Zitina Aokuso (194-F-98) had 10 each. Park Jihyun (180-F-00) replied with 17 in defeat and Kim Danbi (175-G/F-92) added 11.
Akaho crowned MVP to lead FIBA Women's Asia Cup All-Star Five - Oct 3, 2021
AMMAN (Jordan) - There was a double celebration for Japan forward Himawari Akaho after she landed TISSOT MVP honors at the FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2021 in recognition for her leadership and defense in taking her nation to another title.
Japan went five in a row after taking down China 78-73 in an amazing game that will be remembered for many years by those who witnessed it.
The forward might not have had the most spectacular numbers during the competition, but her work ethic and calm head in the biggest moments were a difference-maker.
Her key interventions included a game-winning last second block in the Semi-Final with Australia. Akaho averaged 10.6 points. 5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game.
She was joined in the All-Star Five by her teammate Saori Miyazaki who erupted in the title game with an incredible 26 points and 11 assists. That contributed to a tournament average of 9.6 dimes per game, handing her the number one spot in the category.
Meanwhile despite the disappointment of missing out on gold, China did have two players in the line-up. Yueru Li headed to Amman tipped for a place and she delivered with 15.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per outing. Sijing Huang also made it with an outstanding efficiency throughout, averaging 13.2 points, 5.4 boards and 3.2 assists per game.
Finally, Sami Whitcomb led Australia by example from start to finish and took the last All-Star Five spot. She guided the Opals to another bronze medal and lit it up throughout with 17.5 points, 7.5 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game.

Fiba Asia Cup 2021: China reach the Final, ease past Korea - Oct 2, 2021

China advanced to the Finals of the Fiba Asia Cup 2021. In the semifinals clash they edged South Korea 93:69. China is now one victory away from completing their mission in Jordan.
China nailed 23 points in the opening period and never looked behind after. They won the second and the third periods and did not mind a narrow 21-26 loss at the end of the game.
Yueru Li (201-C-99) top-scored for the winners with 20 points and Sijing Huang (192-PF-96) nailed 16. In-Yeong Yang (184-C-95) LiWei (175-PG-95) had 11 and Han Xu (206-C-99) added 10. In-Yeong Yang replied with 12 points in a loss and Hye-Jin Park (178-G-90) added 10.

Japan outscored Australia 67-65 and advanced to the Final game of the Fiba Asia Cup 2021. Japan set up a repeat of the 2019 FIBA Women's Asia Cup Final to play China in the title game.
Japan nailed 20 points to take 8-point lead at the ed of the first period. Australia replied with massive 24-11 run, however Japan slowly moved to the win right after. Akaho Himawari (184-C-98) blocked a last-gasp three-point effort from Sami Whitcomb to reach the Final with her team.
Saki Hayashi (173-G-95) stepped up with 17 points for the winners and Mai Yamamoto (165-PG-99) as well as Akaho Himawari had 12 each. Australia punched the semifinal ticket at the Fiba Asia Cup 2021. They edged New Zealand 72:61 in the Quarterfinal game to advance to the Final Four.
Both teams nailed 20 points in the opening period, while Australia allowed the opponents to score only 14 in the second. Moreover Australia won the third and the fourth quarters to seal the win.

South Korea beat Chinese Taipei 80-74 in the Quarterfinal clash at the Fiba Asia Cup 2021. Korea opened the game with a 24-16 run and led 9 points at the halftime. Chinese Taipei however struggled hard in the second half and almost caught up with the opponents. Hye-Jin Park (178-G-90), however, drilled another jumper to give her team a four-point cushion with around 90 seconds left on the clock. Taiwan turned to fouls to stop the clock but ultimately was unable to catch up.
Hye-Jin Park top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Lee-Seul Kang (180-F-94) netted 15. Hye-Yoon Bae (182-F/C-89) produced 14, whilst An Jin (185-C-96) added 8. Peng Hsiao-Tong (168-G-98) ended up with 18 points in a loss and Chen Wei-An (177-PF-95) as well as Hsi-Yeh Liu (180-SG-98) had 9 each.

Japan started the game with a 24-18 run and led 1-point at the halftime. Korea Republic took control in the third period with a 12-6 rally, however could not win the game. Japan closed the group stage with a 24-14 surge to seal the win.

Olympic silver medallists outscored Tall Ferns in Day 2 opener of the Asia Cup 2021. Japan improved to a 2-0 record after a 62-50 win. New Zealand slumped to 0-2 in Group A at the eight-team tournament that will decide the four teams from the region to proceed to the next stage of World Cup qualifying early next year.

The favorites grabbed a 29-12 lead in the first period and never looked behind after. China managed to score 37 points in the third period and reached 3-digit number early in the fourth.

Japan won over China 71-68 in the final of the 2019 FIBA Women's Asia Cup here on Sunday, going for its third straight title of the event. Japan's Nanoko Motohashi (164-G-93), who crowned the MVP at the Asia Cup, pocketed 24 points and eight assists in the final thriller. WNBA player XU Han (206-C-99) earned 18 points and seven rebounds for China, but her team failed to bring the trophy back to China for the first time since 2011. Japan converted 9-of-15 three-point shots, 60 percent accuracy compared to 8-of-17 for team China. The tiny advantage survived Japan in the tough game. China had a 10-4 start and took a 19-17 lead in the first period before it went on a 9-1 scoring run midway into the second quarter to have a double digit advantage, but they allowed the defending champion to trim its deficit to one point before the half break. Li Yuan (170-PG-00) pocketed five points consecutively at the beginning of the second half, but Japan responded with a 9-2 run and turned the tables around during the third period. Japan found its pace, making its rival trail 54-51 after three quarters. China twice narrowed the gap to one point in the fourth quarter, but failed to overtake. With 22.5 seconds left before the full time, Wu Tongtong (176-PG-94) kept her team's hope of coming back through a three-pointer, trimming the deficits to three points. But Ting Shao (183-SF-89) missed the final three-point which may lead the game into an extra period.
