ChiChina won the 24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women. They handed South
Korea their first loss and triumphed with 65:62 victory. Miao sank a
sizzling three-pointer to take the game away from a precarious position
and Nan Chen stepped up to draw a foul and convert both the free-throws
to seal the 111th FIBA Asia Championship for Women gold medal for China.
It was a slow start and both teams realized the importance of the
victory. China took 10:9 lead after the first defensive 10 minutes and
added massive 24-19 in the second frame. Zengyu MA and
Kim Youn Joo (178-F-86) exchanged the three-pointers at the end of
the half for 34:29 halftime advantage. The third quarter belonged to the
undefeated team before that game as South Korea needed 19-11 in the
quarter for 47:45 lead after thirty minutes.
Sin Jung Ja (185-C-80) later tied the game at 51:51, while Lijie
MIAO nailed three for 63:59.
Lee Younhoa (186-C-83) reduced to 63:62 but
Chen Nan (197-C-83) made two free throws for the final triumph. Miao
LiJie stepped up with 20 points for the winners and
Ma Zengyu (183-F-84) netted 19. Chen Nan collected 17 points and 10
rebounds in a win, while Gao Song notched 3.
Sin Jung Ja replied with 15 points and 16 rebounds, whilst Kim Danbi
added 11.
3rd place
Japan - Taiwan
83-56
Japan clinched Bronze at the home tournament. The hosts overcame Chinese
Taipei 83:56 in the game for the third place at the 24th FIBA Asia
Championship for Women. Japan's 11th bronze medal in FIBA Asia
Championship for Women history also booked them a place in the 2012 FIBA
Olympic Qualifying tournament. Japan showed their ambitions for the
higher place from the very beginning and reached 28:10 at the end of the
first period. Moreover they erupted with another 27-9 and just enjoyed
the rest of the game. Chinese Taipei won the third quarter 15-12 and
even looked better in the last stanza. The guests needed 22-16 in the
final period to reduce to 27 points.
Maki Takada (1 (183-C-89) paced all the winners with 25 points and Oga
Yuko netted 10.
Yoko Nagi (175-F-82) and
Yuka Mamiya (183-C/F-90) delivered 9 points apiece. Chiang Feng-Chun
ended up with 24 points in the losing effort and
Lin Chi-Wen (186-C-83) notched 9.

Semifinals
China - Japan
76-62
ChiChina advanced to the Final of the 24th FIBA Asia Championship for
Women. The team outscored the hosts 76:62 and will face South Korea
tomorrow in the Final. Japan meanwhile will take on Chinese Taipei for
the third place.
Yuko Oga (170-G-82) gave Japan the first lead and as it became known
later it was the last one. The sides were tied at 6:6, while Zengyu MA
closed the opening period at 21:8. Another 17-13 in the second period
brought the winning side 38:21 advantage. Nan CHEN scored for 41:21 and
she also increased to 22 points midway through the third frame.
Yuka Mamiya (183-C/F-90) later reduced to 60:42 for Japan. The
latter also won the last period 20-16 but could not come closer.
Chen Nan (197-C-83) top-scored for the winners with 21 points and 10
rebounds, while
Miao LiJie (180-G-81) netted 18.
Ma Zengyu (183-F-84) notched 13 and Gao Song scored 7.
Yuko Oga ended up with 14 points in the losing case and Yoshida
Asami added 11.
South Korea - Taiwan

South Korea steps closer to the title at the 24th FIBA Asia Championship
for Women. The undefeated team overcame Chinese Taipei 72:66 in the
Semifinal clash to reach the Final. Two days ago South Korea edged
Chinese Taipei at the 24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women. The
favorites grabbed 69:67 win to win Group A with 5-0 record. Chinese
Taipei finished fourth with 2-3 record and advance to the semis as the
last fourth team from the group. Tonight Chinese Taipei opened the game
with 16:14, but
Choi Youn Ah (170-G-85) tied the game at 16:16 in the start of the
second frame. South Korea won the second period 20-13 and
Kang Ajeong (180-F-89) closed the half at 34:29. Chun-Yi LIU later
tied the game at 42:42, while Young Suk gave the favorites 51:46
advantage. In the last stanza South Korea stayed in front for the whole
time and after 21-18 won the game. Sin Jung Ja paced all the winners
with 15 points and
Kim Jung Eun (180-F-87) as well as
Choi Youn Ah netted 13 apiece. Ha Eunjoo followed them with 12
points.
Liu Chun-Yi (180-F/C-81) and Chiang Feng-Chun replied with 15 points
each in the losing effort.
Play-off
Lebanon - Kazakhstan
65-54
Kazakhstan could not make it to the Level I for next edition of the FIBA
Asia Championship for Women. The team lost to Lebanon 54:65 on Saturday
opener.
Brittany Denson (192-C-87, college:
S.Florida) was too good for the opponents.
Brittany Denson opened the scoring for the game, while Anastassiya
Alishauskaite replied with a three-pointer, but it was
Brittany Denson after that all the way for a long time. The winners
grabbed 26:14 after the first period and never looked behind in the
first period.
Nadezhda Kondrakova (192-C-89) reduced to 32:26, but Lebanon had 7
points advantage at the halftime. No matter how close Kazakhstan could
come in the third period, they did not tie the game. Only
Nadezhda Kondrakova's shot gave Kazakhstan 50:49 lead in the last
stanza.
Brittany Denson responded immediately for 51:50 and she brought
another four points for Lebanon. Nisrin DANDAN was the last to score for
the winning side and will remain with them in Level I for next edition
of the FIBA Asia Championship for Women.
Brittany Denson erupted with 31 points and 20 rebounds, while
Nayla Alameddine (175-F-82) added 9. Kurazova Zalina and
Nadezhda Kondrakova scored 17 points each and added 23 rebounds
together. Seregina Tamara followed them with 10 points in a loss.
India - Malaysia
66-60
India retains their place in Level I for next edition of the FIBA Asia
Championship for Women. The team needed 66:60 over Malaysia on Saturday.
India's win was their third successive success against the same opponent
at the same stage. Although India looked better in the first 10 minutes,
Malaysia grabbed 19:17 lead at the end of it. Suik May KEW scored for
22:17 and, while Geethu Anna JOSE tied the score at 25:25.
Anitha Pauldurai (170-G-85) sent the teams to the lockers at 31:29.
The third quarter became decisive in the game as India produced a 21-12
for 52:41 with 10 minutes to go. Moreover
Prashanti Singh (173-G-84) scored for 60:47 with 7 minutes to play.
Malaysia erupted for 9-0 run and Woon Yuen TEO reduced it to 60:56.
Moreover Woon Yuen TEO scored for 62:60 with 2 minutes, but
Prashanti Singh brought the last four points for India to clinch the
victory with them. Pauldurai Anitha stepped up with 23 points for the
winners and
Geethu Anna Jose (185-C-85) added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Singh
Prashanti notched 14, while Netam Bharti posted 7. Teo Woon Yuen replied
with 13 points in the losing effort and Rajintiran Kalaimathi delivered

Level I
India-Lebanon 52:71 India lost to Lebanon at the last game of the Preliminary Round
at the 24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women. Lebanon started strong and
reached 71:52 win. The team finished on the last spot in the group with
0-5 record and will play Malaysia in the Level I play-off for the third
FIBA Asia Championship for Women in a row. Lebanon meanwhile will take
on Kazakhstan that finished second in Level II.
Lebanon opened the game with 20-4 and never looked behind after. Bharti
NETAM reduced to 24:13, while
Brittany Denson (192-C-87, college:
S.Florida) closed the half at 32:17. Lebanon pushed the tempo again
in the third quarter and after 23-9 enjoyed 55:26 after three quarters.
India bounced back with 26-16 but could only cut to 19 points. Brittany Denson and
Chada Nasr (174-G-83) top-scored for the winners with 16 points each
while the latter added 10 rebounds.
Nayla Alameddine (175-F-82) delivered 14 points in the winning
effort for the initial victory.
Geethu Anna Jose (185-C-85) replied with 21 points for India and
Anitha Pauldurai (170-G-85) notched 9.
South Korea-Chinese Taipei 69:67 South Korea edged Chinese Taipei, will face them again in the
semis at the 24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women. The favorites
grabbed 69:67 win to win Group A with 5-0 record. Chinese Taipei
finished fourth with 2-3 record and advance to the semis as the last
fourth team from the group.
The teams exchanged the lead in the opening tip, while South Korea took
25:18 at the end of the frame.
Chiang Feng-Chun (184-F-81) reduced to 29:27 and Yi-Hung MA tied it
all at 31:31. Ajeong KANG however sent the squads to the lockers at
35:33, South Korea. The latter stayed in front for the whole third
period and increased to 53:48 at the end of it.
Ha Eun Joo (200-C-83) made the biggest lead in the second half for
the winners, while
Chiang Feng-Chun cut it to 69:67 with a minute to go. As it became
clear her shot was the last successful in the game. Kim Jung Eun (180-F-87) stepped up with 17 points for the winners
and
Ha Eun Joo notched 15.
Chiang Feng-Chun ended up with 24 points in the losing effort and
Lan Jui-Yu (170-G-83) as well as
Liu Chun-Yi (180-F/C-81) added 11 apiece.
China-Japan 76:53 China outscored Japan at the last game of the Preliminary Round
of the 24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women. China held overall control
of the proceedings in their 76:53 win on Thursday.
Both teams knew the importance of the game that could not bring them any
chances of avoiding the meeting in the semis. They both nailed 19 points
in the opening period, but then China grabbed 11-point lead at the
halftime. China added the same 21-10 in the third quarter and enjoyed
61:39 after 30 minutes. They added 15-14 in the last quarter for the
final success.
Yan Yan JI top-scored for the winners with 17 points and
Ma Zengyu (183-F-84) netted 12.
Chen Nan (197-C-83) posted 10, while
Yang Ban Ban (171-G-89) delivered 9.
Yoko Nagi (175-F-82) responded with 13 points in the losing effort
and
Moeko Nagaoka (180-F-93) scored 10.
China will take on Japan in the semifinals again on Saturday. In another
Semifinal South Korea will take on Chinese Taipei.
Level II
Indonesia - Singapore 74:58
Indonesia recorded the fourth win at the Asia Championship. They toppled
Singapore for 4-1 record in Level II group. But the victory was not
enough for Indonesia as they claimed the third position in the ladder
and failed to advance into Level I qualifying round.
Jacklien Ibo (175-F-90) stepped up with 20 points to pace Indonesia.
Indonesia registered a 21:15 lead after ten minutes. Singapore cut the
deficit in the second term. They arrived at halftime trailing by just 3
points 32:35. Indonesia however picked up the slack in the third term.
They limited Singapore to just 7 points in the third stanza and piled up
a 16-point lead at the final intermission. The teams traded baskets in
the fourth frame as Indonesia marched to the victory at the end.
Wulan Ningrum (174-G/F-85) knocked down 14 points, while
Catryn Clorissa (175-F-91) added 10 points for the winners.
Koh Weibin (165-F-86) answered with 21 points for Singapore.
Lim Jiamin (167-PG-91) provided 12 points and 6 rebounds in defeat.
Kazakhstan - Sri Lanka 80:42
Kazakhstan registered the fourth win at the Asia Championship in Omura.
They cruised past Sri Lanka to improve at 4-1 record in Level II ladder.
Kazakhstan will now take on Lebanon in the battle for Level I promotion.
Nadezhda Kondrakova (192-C-89) and
Anna Vinokurova (191-C-92) stepped up with 14 points each to pace
the Kazakh team. Sri Lanka fell at 0-5 record after the loss.
Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka stayed on level terms throughout the opening
quarter. The Kazakh team posted a 17:13 lead after ten minutes.
Kazakhstan shifted the gear drastically in the second quarter. They held
their opponents to just 4 points in the period and registered a 41:17
halftime lead. Kazakhstan took over completely and raced to a massive
65:27 lead at the final intermission. The teams exchanged baskets
throughout the fourth period as Kazakhstan coasted to the victory.
Tamara Seregina (182-F-90) and
Yulia Korotkaya (175-G-77) added 13 points apiece in the win.
Inoka Pedige (82) answered with 21 points and 6 boards for Sri
Lanka.
Herath Ekanayake netted 5 points in the loss.
Malaysia - Uzbekistan 65:58
Malaysia registered a key win at the Asia Championship in Japan. They
held off Uzbekistan to book appearance in the qualifying round. Malaysia
will now take on India for Level I promotion.
Hui Pin Pang (176-90) scored 15 points to pace Malaysia past
Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan got to the better start. They recorded a 20:15 lead at the
first break. Malaysia responded in the second quarter. They erased the
deficit and registered a 35:33 halftime lead. Malaysia stayed in charge
throughout the third term. They posted a 49:44 advantage heading into
the fourth frame. Zakharova put Uzbekistan within one with under three
minutes to 56:57. However Beng Fong Goh and
Hui Pin Pang knocked down five next points and Malaysia ran away for
the victory at the end.
Woon Yuen Teo (165-G-85) produced 13 points, while
Shin Min Yong (174-F-87) added 8 points in the winning effort.
Irina Polunina (176-G-79) answered with 17 points for Uzbekistan.
Anastasiya Mikulenko (193-F/C-88) had 16 points and 13 rebounds in

LEVEL1
Chinese Taipei-China 63:72
China improved to 3-1 record in Level I after the win over Chinese
Taipei. Nan Chen led China to 72:63 victory as Chinese Taipei is tied
with 2-2 record.
Both teams started well and only few points separated them in the first
period. China took 18:16 after the first 10 minutes, while Yi-Hung MA
reduced to 33:32 at the halftime. Chinese Taipei could stay on race and
failed in the third quarter.
Ma Zengyu
(183-F-84) scored for 51:41 and China led 55:48 after 30 minutes.
Wan-Ting LI remained her team alive at 55:53 and then
Lin Chi-Wen
(186-C-83) scored for 57:55, but Lijie MIAO and

Lebanon-South Korea 75:104
South Korea did not have any difficulties reaching the fourth
straight victory at the 24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women in Japan.
The team overcame Lebanon 104:75 as the latter remains winless.
South Korea was the favorite of the game and proved it from the very
beginning. The first period became offensive in the game as the
favorites took 34:21 at the end of it.

Japan-India 79:51
Japan outscored India in the last game of Day 4 of the 24th
FIBA Asia Championship for Women. The hosts of the tournament needed
79:51 for 3-1 record. Even without the leaders the home side showed
their best. Yuko Oga, Asami Yoshida, Ai Mitani and Ramu Tokashiki
enjoyed a holiday on the bench as the others proved sufficient.
Japan raced ahead 14-5 in the first quarter and were never really
bothered. They added 20-16 in the second period for 34:21 at the
halftime. Another 25-20 in the third period brought them 59:41.

Indonesia - Uzbekistan 68:65
Indonesia posted a crucial win in the fight for top two
positions in Level II group of Asia Championship. They held off
Uzbekistan to improve at 3-1 record on top of the standings. Uzbekistan
suffered the second loss in a row.
Wulan Ningrum
(174-G/F-85) stepped up with 20 points to pace the winners.
Indonesia enjoyed a narrow 17:14 lead after ten minutes. They stretched
the lead in the second quarter. Uzbekistan scored just 7 points in the
period to face a 14-point deficit at halftime 21:35. But the Uzbek team
revived the intrigue in the third term. They narrowed the margin at two
points 48:50 at the final intermission.
Yelena Khusnitdinova
(85) levelled things up at 57 midway through the fourth period. But
Indonesia pulled back in front and hung on to escape with a narrow win
at the end.

(175-F-90) posted 17 points and 11 rebounds, while
Yunita Sugianto
(167-PG-87) added 7 points in the victory.

responded with 19 points for Uzbekistan.

Kazakhstan - Singapore 89:52
Kazakhstan registered the third win at the Asia Championship in
Japan. They prevailed against Singapore to climb at 3-1 record.
Kazakhstan now share the top spot in Level II standings together with
Indonesia and Malaysia.

(182-F-90) fired 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the charge.
Singapore fell at 1-3 record after the defeat.
Kazakhstan jumped to a comfortable lead in the opening quarter. They
piled up a 21:5 advantage at the first break. Kazakhstan maintained the
lead well throughout the second term. Moreover they boosted the margin
to 23 points at the interval 42:19. Things got just worse for Singapore
after the main break. Kazakhstan continued to stretch the lead. They
ensured a confident 26-point advantage at the final break and never
looked back en route to the win.

(184-F-85) notched 13 points, while

Malaysia - Sri Lanka 65:30
Malaysia earned the third win at the Asia Championship in
Japan. They toppled Sri Lanka to improve at 3-1 record in Level II
standings.
Siew Teng Ang
(174-87) scored 11 points to pace the winners. Sri Lanka suffered the
fourth straight defeat at the tournament.
Malaysia set the tone early. They outgunned Sri Lanka 20:5 in the
starting frame. Malaysia stayed in charge throughout the second frame.
They established a 37:10 halftime lead. Sri Lanka slowed down their
opponents in the third quarter but still could not get any closer.
Malaysia entered the fourth quarter up by 30 points. Malaysia never
looked back afterwards cruising to the victory at the end.

South Korea-Japan 66:59
South Korea won the thriller and the top game of the third day at the
24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women in Japan. The top team beat the
home side 66:59 to take 3-0 record in Leven I. Japan meanwhile suffered
their first loss and dropped to 2-1.
Japan forged themselves ahead with a 16-0 spree that ran across the
first quarter break, and barring the sporadic lapses in their defense
were well set for the win.
Yuko Oga
(170-G-82) made it 20:6 and Sachiko ISHIKAWA scored for 25:13. South
Korea managed to win the second period and reduced to 10 points at the
halftime. Sachiko ISHIKAWA brought plus 14 in the third period, however
South Korea cut it to 5 at the end of it.
Kim Danbi
(180-F-90) later tied it all at 51:51 and South Korea pushed the tempo
for good.
Choi Youn Ah (170-G-85)
(170-G-85) made the final result in the game as her side won the third
game in a row. Kim Danbi
stepped up with 24 points and

India surprised the favorites in the first period and led several times
in the game. Both teams finished with 12 points on the board, while
China pushed the tempo later in the half. Yanyan JI sent the squads to
the lockers at 28:18. The third period was decisive in the court as
China erupted with 32-8 for 34-point advantage. Nuo XU made two free

Sri Lanka got to a slightly better start. They registered an 18:16 lead

Singapore turned things around right after the big break. They ignited
an 18:6 run to build a 47:38 lead at the final intermission. Sri Lanka

Kazakhstan aggressively started the game. They ensured an 18:11 lead

baskets as Kazakhstan entered the final quarter up by 8 points 43:35.

Indonesia revived their Level I promotion ambitions at Asia
Championship in Omura. They handed Malaysia the first loss at the
tournament and caught up with those in the ladder.

Indonesia fired 31 points in the opening quarter to clear off. They
established a 15-point lead at the first break. Malaysia stopped the rot
adjusting defensively. They limited their opponents to just 10 points in
the second stanza and cut the deficit to 14 points at halftime 27:41.
Malaysia increased the tempo in the third term. They narrowed the
deficit to just 8 points with one quarter remaining.

Japan jumped on 2-0 record in Level I at the 24th FIBA Asia Championship
for Women. Japan outscored Chinese Taipei 81:54 in the last game of Day
2.
Fumikazu Nakagawas team scored the first seven points of the game, built
up a 9-point lead in the first five minutes and went on to close the
first quarter 17 points ahead, from where they never looked back.
Sachiko ISHIKAWA scored for 34:12 and Al MITANI increased to 44:18.
After 22-21 in the second frame Japan had 49:31 at the halftime. Japan
also scored 22 points in the third frame, but they limited the opponents
to just 11 points. Chinese Taipei however won the last period 12-10 to

Japan. They rebounded after the starting loss to Malaysia to tame
Indonesia on Day 2.

at 1-1 record and caught up with Indonesia in Level II ladder.
Kazakhstan set the tone early in the game. They erupted for 30 points in
the opening frame to build a 17-point cushion. Kazakhstan maintained the
lead throughout the second quarter. They secured a 50:31 halftime
advantage. Indonesia failed to change the complexion of the encounter
after the big break. Kazakhstan stayed in charge posting a 76:51 lead
heading into the fourth quarter. Kazakhstan loosened the grasp in the
fourth frame allowing Indonesia to sweeten the pill at the end.

Asia Championship in Japan. They dismantles Singapore to stay on top of
Level II ladder.

Malaysia held their opponents scoreless in the first quarter. The margin
grew at 24 points at the first break. Malaysia kept on scoring eagerly

did not slow down after the big break. They dominated in every facet of
the game breezing to a comprehensive win at the end.

South Korea needed two overtimes to edge China at the 24th FIBA Asia
Championship for Women. In the best game of Day 1 South Korea grabbed
99:93 victory.
The teams started well but Kwe Ryong scored for 14:5. China had a strong
end of the quarter to tie the period at 16:16. Again the team from South
Korea went on a bigger lead and enjoyed 40:32 at the halftime when

(196-C-87) exchanged the late baskets in the half. China however won the
third quarter 23-15 and Lijie MIAO tied it all at 55:55. Trailing 6

scored 10 points each for 86:86 and then in the second overtime South
Korea won the game. Choi Youn Ah erupted with 29

with the win over India. Sea Hat Omura Venue saw 81:53 victory in the
opener of the tournament.
India opened the game with 4-0 but could not keep the lead.

20:15. The advantage continued to grow in the second period as

Lebanon-Japan 49:77>
It It was
baptism by fire for Lebanon in Level I of the FIBA Asia Championship
for Women with the team losing to hosts, and strong contenders for
the title itself, Japan 77-49 on Sunday.
Chada Nasr, arguably one of the most talented woman basketballers in
West Asia, opened the scoring for the game with a sizzling
three-pointer and naturalized center Brittany Denson capped her own
offensive rebound to keep Japan 5-2 ahead.
That was for all Lebanon were in lead for the rest of the game.
Yuko Oga (pic above), the most popular player in Japan, who had
scored in between, took control of her teams moves and subsequently
the proceedings in the game scoring 8 of her games 14 points in the
first quarter, which Japan closed 22-9 ahead.
Fumikazu Nakagawas team never looked back thereafter.
I am happy to start with a win. It is a nice way to begin such an
important, and deep tournament, Nakagawa said.
Denson had 14 points and

I think their experience in Level I games showed, Nasr said.
And mind you, this is our first ever game at this level. We are
happy we picked a few points, from where we can only improve, she

held in Japan. They prevailed against Kazakhstan in the opener.

Malaysia held their opponents at 10 points in the opening quarter to
post a 4-point lead. The tempo increased in the second quarter.
Malaysia fired 21 points to take an 8-point halftime lead 35:27.
Kazakhstan however bounced back after the big break. They narrowed
the deficit at just four points 45:49 with ten minutes to go.
Kondrakova put Kazakhstan as close as two points 47:49 early in the
fourth frame but Malaysia responded with 10:2 run and cleared off
for good in this one.

into the fourth quarter. Sri Lanka finally showed some signs of
recovery in the fourth term. They cut the deficit but never
threatened the margin as Indonesia cruised to the victory at the
end.
