FINALMorocco - Egypt 90-96Egypt claimed the title at the championship. The hosts came from behind to beat Morocco for the trophy. Amr El Gendy (192-G-91) nailed 18 points to lead the champions. Morocco got to a furious start. They sank 32 points in the first period to take an 11-point lead. But Egypt slowly turned things around. The hosts pulled within 9 points at halftime 42:51. Egypt unloaded 31 points in the third term to surge ahead for a narrow 3-point lead. Egypt continued to put pressure on the visitors in the fourth term. Egypt boosted the lead and protected it late in regulation to seal the victory. Motaz Okasha (186-PG-90) and Ramy Ibrahim (205-F/C-88) delivered 14 points each in the win. Abdelhakim Zouita (200-F-86) responded with 20 points for Morocco. John Wilkins (207-F/C-89, college: Illinois St., agency: Promotex) had 16 points and 8 boards in the loss. 3-4 PlaceSaudi Arabia - Bahrain 69-79Bahrain claimed the Bronze medals at the Arab Nations Cup. They topped Saudi Arabia in the consolation final. Mohammed Qurban (187-F-87) stepped up with 17 points to lead the winners. Bahrain accumulated a 52:38 halftime lead. Saudi Arabia narrowed the deficit in the second half but could not avoid the loss at the end. Malcolm White (205-C/F-88, college: LSU) provided 16 points and 8 rebounds in the victory. Nassir Abojalas (194-F-94) responded with 19 points for Saudi Arabia. |
