Egypt trounced Saudi Arabia to finish the preliminary round in the second place. Amr El Gendy (192-G-91) scored 24 points to lead the winners. The hosts jumped to a 17:4 lead after ten minutes. Saudi Arabia picked up the tempo in the next two periods. They pulled within 8 points at the final break. But Egypt ignited a 23:8 run in the fourth term to seal the victory. Moustafa Almekawy (204-F/C-94) delivered 12 points for the winners. Marzouq Almuwallad (180-PG-92) replied with 13 points for Saudi Arabia.
Algeria - Bahrain 71-82
Bahrain improved at 2-3 record in the ladder as they beat Algeria today. Mohamed Alderazi (194-F/G-80) came up with 21 points to lead the winners. Algeria jumped to a 37:31 halftime advantage. But Bahrain used a strong 31:16 fourth quarter to snatch the victory. Malcolm White (205-C/F-88, college: LSU) stepped up with 17 points and 21 rebounds for the winners. Anis Fedala (G) and Oussama Aggoun (F-94) responded with 15 points each for Algeria.
United Arab Emirates - Morocco 52-106
Morocco claimed the fifth straight win at the championship. Yacine Yacine (196-F/G-89, agency: Promotex) and John Wilkins (207-F/C-89, college: Illinois St., agency: Promotex) provided 20 points each to lead them past the United Arab Emirates. Morocco built a 54:32 halftime lead. They held the UAE to just 20 points in the second half and cruised to the victory. Mohamed Choua (202-F/C-92) recorded 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Salem Suwais (180-F-98) responded with 13 points for the UAE.
