New Zealand cruised past India in the Williams Jones Cup opener. Ashleigh Karaitiana (183-G-92, college: Hawaii) stepped up with 38 points to lead the Kiwis. New Zealand accumulated a 34:8 lead after ten minutes. The Tall Ferns unleashed 58 points in the second half to cruise to the victory. Penina Davidson (190-F-95, college: California) added 12 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Raspreet Sidhu (169-F-89) answered with 10 points for India.
South Korea - Taiwan B 81-64
South Korea rallied past Taiwan B to open win count at the tournament. Han-Byul Kim (178-G/F-86, college: Indiana) delivered 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. South Korea accumulated a 41:28 halftime lead. They followed with a 28:12 run in the third term to clear off for good. Kang Lee-Seul (180-F-94) had 15 points for the winners. Liu Xi-Ye (172-F-91) replied with 17 points for Taiwan B.
Taiwan - Japan 55-88
Japan cruised past Taiwan for the first win in Taipei. Japan grabbed a 22:9 lead ten minutes into the game. They extended the margin at 22-point mark at the interval. Japan followed with a 21:12 rally in the fourth period to ice the winning outcome. Tamami Nakada (180-C-97) and Saki Hayashi (171-G-95) netted 16 points each for Japan. Huang Ping-Chen (178-F-89) replied with 16 points for Taiwan.
