South Korea and Canada suffered their first losses at the 2017 Jones Cup at the Taipei Peace Basketball Gymnasium here Tuesday and allowed other 5 teams to catch up.
Gilas Pilipinas overcame Japan 100-85 as Christian Standhardinger (206-F-89, college: Hawaii) and Mike Myers (206-F-92, college: Md-E Shore) both piled up double-double numbers while Matthew Wright, Kiefer Ravena and Jio Jalalon combined for 37 markers against the Japan 24-under team.
Republic of China White beat Iraq 87-79, while Iran smashed India 88-44. Lithuania handed South Korea a 95-80 loss as Sarunas Beniusis (206-F/C-93) led the way with 24 points and Eigirdas Zukauskas (205-F-92) added 20. JunBeon Jeon ended up with 21 points in the losing effort.
Republic of China Blue surprised Canada 89-86. Cheng Liu (192-F-90) top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Zheng-Ru Lu poured in 19. Garrett Williamson (196-G-88, college: St.Joseph's) finished the night with 15 in a loss, whilst Diego Kapelan (190-G-87, college: McNeese St.) notched 14.
