The biggest surprise of round 3 in West Asia Super League took place in Gorgan where host Iranian Gorgan (2-0) crushed Syrian Al Ittihad (1-1) 121-70 on Wednesday evening. Gorgan forced 21 Al Ittihad turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 51.5 percentage. Gorgan looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Al Ittihad's players. The best player for the winners was American point guard Will Cherry (185-1991, college: Montana) who scored 30 points. Arsalan Kazemi (200-1990, college: Oregon, agency: BIG) chipped in 11 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was German-Syrian power forward Mohamad Atli (203-1995) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kuwaiti Kuwait smashed Qatari Al Rayyan in Kuwait City 85-62. It was a good game for Haitian center Cady Lalanne (208-1992, college: UMass) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Mohammad Hasan contributed with 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American guard Shamorie Ponds (185-1998, college: St.John's) answered with 22 points and 5 rebounds for Al Rayyan. An interesting game was played in Baghdad where Lebanese Sagesse (#3) beat host Iraqi Al Naft (#4) 90-78 on Thursday evening. It was a great evening for Pierre Jackson who led his team to a victory scoring 39 points (!!!). Sagesse's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Shane Gibson with 24 points and 7 assists. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
In the last game of round 3 winless Al Ahli was defeated by Al-Muharraq in Al Muharraq 94-80.
