FINALKuwait - Al-Manama 59-67Al Manama conquered the inaugural WASL title. They rallied past Kuwait in the championship game in Dubai City. Kuwait trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 20-17 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 59-67 at the end of the game. American swingman Sir'Dominic Pointer (198-1992, college: St.John's) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Mustafa Rashed (177-2002) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Point guard Hamad Hasan (191-1997) replied with 25 points and 6 rebounds and Haitian center Cady Lalanne (208-1992, college: UMass) added 21 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Kuwait. Kuwait's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 31-21. But Al Riyadi won second period 23-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Astana won last quarter 31-29. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Slovenian forward Martin Krampelj (206-1995, college: Creighton) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Markell Johnson (188-1998, college: NC State) who added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. Astana's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. South Sudanese-Australian center Duop Reath (210-1996, college: LSU) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) and American guard Kevin Murphy (197-1990, college: Tenn Tech) scored 16 points and 5 assists. Four Astana and five Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. The game was mostly controlled by Al Riyadi. Gorgan managed to win fourth quarter 31-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. South Sudanese-Australian center Duop Reath (210-1996, college: LSU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 9 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). Guard Wael Arakji (194-1994) contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. American-Guinea-Bissau point guard Parrish Petty (185-1988, college: UTRGV) replied with a triple-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists and Behnam Yakhchali (196-1995, agency: BIG) added 19 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Gorgan. Five Al Riyadi and four Gorgan players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
