Round 2: Al Bashaer lose to Al Hilal

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in West Asia Super League. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game of round 2 was a defeat of Omani Al Bashaer. They were crushed by Saudi Arabian Al Hilal 86-54 on Monday night. Al Hilal looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American power forward Clinton Chapman (208-1989, college: Texas) had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and center Mohammed Alsuwailem (211-1998) chipped in 15 points and 17 rebounds during the contest. Al Hilal's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Aaron Parks (190-1994, college: CSUN) responded with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Al Bashaer will play next round against Kazma trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Al Hilal will try to continue on its current victory against Shabab Al Ahli in Dubai.
Saudi Arabian Al Nassr recorded a loss in Riyadh. Hosts were edged by Qatari Al Sadd 78-77. American-German forward Waverly Austin (211-1991, college: Oregon) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 19 rebounds to lead the effort and Babacar Dieng supported him with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 21 points by American guard Kenny Brown (188-1991, college: Ferris St., agency: SLN) did not help to save the game for Al Nassr. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Quite upsetting was Jordanian Orthodox's 29-point home defeat in a game versus Lebanese Beirut Club who crushed hosts The best player for the winners was Mohamad Haidar who scored 25 points and 7 rebounds. Mohammad Hussein produced 14 points and 4 assists for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: winless Kazma lost to undefeated Shabab Al Ahli on the opponent's court 86-91. Winless Al-Manama lost to Kuwaiti defending champion Kuwait in a home game 88-91. Al Karameh recorded a loss to Gorgan on the road 78-83. Al Naft defeated Al Riyadi on its own court 100-87. Winless Al Ittihad was smashed by Zob Ahan in Esfahan 75-54.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 20 points and 9 rebounds by Cady Lalanne of Kuwait.

Shabab Al Ahli - Kazma 91-86

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Dubai where Kuwaiti Kazma was defeated by UAE Shabab Al Ahli 91-86 on Monday. Shabab Al Ahli forced 19 Kazma turnovers. The best player for the winners was center Qais Alshabebi (200-1991) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. American Nick Minnerath (207-1988, college: Detroit) chipped in 25 points and 7 rebounds. American power forward Rickey Young (205-1990, college: WVU Tech) produced 26 points and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import power forward Latavious Williams (203-1989, agency: BeoBasket) added 18 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Four Kazma players scored in double figures. Shabab Al Ahli will meet at home Al Hilal in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
