VBA Round 2: Thang Long W. takes over a leadership position

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in VBA. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Thang Long W. defeated National TBC in Hanoi 84-73. American guard Tim Guers (190-96, college: St.Anselm) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. The other American import forward Bryan Coleman (198-92, college: WSU) contributed with 20 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Justin Young replied with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for National TBC. National TBC will play next round against strong Saigon Heat trying to get back on the winning streak. Thang Long W. will try to continue on its current victory against Can Tho CF on the road.
Hanoi B. recorded a loss on the court of Saigon Heat. Visitors were edged by Saigon Heat 93-90. American players dominated the game. Forward Joshua Keyes (201-95, college: Muskingum, agency: PBAplayers Agency) had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and DaQuan Bracey chipped in 27 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Saigon Heat's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Power forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: FAU) responded with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 19 rebounds and 4 assists. Saigon Heat will play against Nhatrang D. in Nha Trang in the next round where they are favorite. Hanoi B. will play at home against Hochiminh CW and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game was also tough home loss of Hochiminh CW in a game versus undefeated Danang D. 80-68. Akeem Scott notched a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 21 points and 19 rebounds by Makinde London did not help to save the game for Hochiminh CW. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Danang D. will meet Thang Long W. in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hochiminh CW will play against Hanoi B. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 2: Thang Long W. beat Danang D. on the road 89-88. Hochiminh CW won against Can Tho CF on its own court 88-87. Winless Nhatrang D. was outscored by Hanoi B. in a road game 110-71. Saigon H. managed to beat National TBC at home 81-66. Thang Long W. defeated Can Tho CF on the opponent's court 92-74. National TBC beat Nhatrang D. in a home game 92-80.
The most impressive performance of 2nd round was 32 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals by Richard Nguyen of National TBC.

Danang D. - Thang Long W. 88-89

There was a small surprise when Thang Long W. edged on the road Danang D. 89-88 on Monday. American forward Bryan Coleman (198-92, college: WSU) notched a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import guard Tim Guers (190-96, college: St.Anselm) supported him with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Even a double-double of 40 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals by Jamaican-American Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) did not help to save the game for Danang D.. American forward Chris Carter (203-92, college: LIU Brooklyn) added 17 points and 15 rebounds for the hosts. Thang Long W. will meet Can Tho CF on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Danang D. will play again against Thang Long W. in Hanoi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather expected game when Can Tho CF was edged on the road by Hochiminh CW 88-87 on Monday. Hochiminh CW forced 19 Can Tho CF turnovers. American guard Jeremy Smith (190-91, college: Nicholls St.) notched a double-double by scoring 42 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and guard Vinh Nguyen Quang (180-95) supported him with 26 points and 5 assists. Hochiminh CW's coach used entire bench in such tough game. Even a double-double of 25 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Jared Sam (207-95, college: Southern, agency: DC Sports) did not help to save the game for Can Tho CF. His fellow American import guard Jarvis Summers (190-93, college: Ole Miss, agency: Haylett Sports) added 25 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Four Can Tho CF players scored in double figures. Hochiminh CW will meet Hanoi B. on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Can Tho CF will play against Thang Long W. and hope to win that game.

Very predictable result when Hanoi B. rolled over at home Nhatrang D. 110-71 on Tuesday. Hanoi B. dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Nhatrang D.'s 38. Hanoi B. forced 21 Nhatrang D. turnovers and outrebounded them 46-31 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American point guard Anthony Moody (182-89, college: Mary) notched 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the other American import power forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: FAU) supported him with 21 points, 19 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks. Even a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds by Dat Nguyen Thanh (174-89) did not help to save the game for Nhatrang D.. American forward Christopher Galbreath (201-95, college: SHSU) added 20 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hanoi B. will meet at home Hochiminh CW in the next round. Nhatrang D. will play against Saigon Heat and hope to win that game.

American point guard DaQuan Bracey (180-97, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Green Sports Management) notched a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 12 assists to lead the effort and naturalized Danish forward Tim Waale (193-98) supported him with 10 points and 19 rebounds. Even 16 points and 7 assists by Justin Young did not help to save the game for National TBC. Point guard An Du Minh (177-93) added 20 points for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Saigon Heat will meet Nhatrang D. in the next round where they are favorite. National TBC will have a break next round.

American point guard Richard Nguyen (183-99, college: Pierce JC) notched a double-double by scoring 32 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and the former international Tu Le Ngoc (182-90) supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. National TBC's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 34 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals by American forward Christopher Galbreath (201-95, college: SHSU) did not help to save the game for Nhatrang D.. Dat Nguyen Thanh (174-89) added 24 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. National TBC will meet Saigon Heat on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
