Malaysia finished their Asian Championship campaign on a high note. They overcame Uzbekistan to clinch the 11th overall position. Shee Fai Loh (192-G/F-89) stepped up with 18 points to pace the winners.
Malaysia grabbed the initiative right from the start. They secured a 22:14 lead after ten minutes. Malaysia maintained the lead throughout the second period. The scoreboard read 45:33 for Cheng Huat Goh team at the interval. But Uzbekistan managed to revive the intrigue in the third quarter. They cut the deficit to just 5 points at the final break 59:64. Uzbekistan erased the deficit and eventually pulled in front after a three-pointer from Vyacheslav Denisov (195-G-83) 67:66. The teams traded baskets before Malaysia went on a 9:0 run to take an 81:73 lead with 59 seconds remaining. Vyacheslav Denisov hit another three-pointer but Malaysia hung on to escape with a narrow win at the end. Li Wei Chee (189-F-85) posted 13 points and 14 rebounds for Malaysia. Chuan Chin Wee (180-G-84) and Ng added 9 points each in the victory. Vyacheslav Denisov responded with 21 points for Uzbekistan. Aleksandr Kozlov (201-F-82) accounted for 15 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.
