Malaysia overcame Uzbekistan in the Second Round of Asian Championship. The victory propelled Malaysia at 1-3 record in Group E. Batumalai Guganeswaran (182-G-82) stepped up with 14 points and 6 assists to pace the winners. Uzbekistan fell at 0-4 record after the loss.
Malaysia stormed into the game posting a 21:10 lead after ten minutes. They maintained the lead throughout the second term. Malaysia arrived at halftime up by as many as 11 points 44:33. Uzbekistan went off the dressing room firing from all guns. They went on a 13:5 rally to narrow the gap to just three points. Denisov put Uzbekistan within just two points 62:64 late in the third term. But Uzbekistan answered with a 6:0 run to clear off. Uzbekistan would get as close as two points on several occasions but Malaysia hung on to escape with a narrow win at the end. Li Wei Chee (189-F-85) posted 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, while Yoong Jing Kwaan (200-C-90) had 12 points for the winners. Aleksandr Kozlov (201-F-82) responded with 21 points and 8 rebounds for Uzbekistan. Gennadiy Zinovyev (198-F-84) netted 15 points in defeat.
