Uzbekistan opened win count at World Military Championship in Rio de Janeiro. They overcame Kazakhstan in a tough battle in Group B. Uzbekistan thus climbed at 1-1 record, while Kazakhstan fell at 0-2. Aleksandr Kozlov (202-F-82) came up with 21 points and 10 rebounds to pace the winners.
Uzbekistan stunned their opponents in the opening minutes. They opened the game on an 11:2 run. Kazakhstan however recovered and cut the deficit to a single point 18:19 at the first break. Kazakhstan pulled in front in the second term but halftime scoreboard read 27:27. Uzbekistan regained control in the third term. They surged ahead to register a 44:38 lead at the final intermission. Kazakhstan once again denied the deficit but Uzbekistan proved more accurate in the dying seconds and eked out a tough victory at the end. Vyacheslav Belokurov (202-F-77) had 10 points and 8 rebounds, while Hurmatjon Nuraliev (201-F-81) contributed 9 points in the victory. Dmitriy Gavrilov (203-F-86) and Dmitriy Klimov (200-F-88) answered with 17 points apiece for Kazakhstan. Dmitriy Klimov also added 10 rebounds in defeat.
