TPBL Round 23 (Regular Season): Lioneers defeat Taiwan Beer L.

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Leopards (19-10) against third ranked Lioneers on Sunday night. Lioneers were defeated by third ranked Lioneers (16-12) 102-91. Lioneers looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Taiwan Beer L. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American power forward Drew Pember (211-2000, college: UNC Asheville) orchestrated the victory by scoring 8 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international point guard Kuo-Hao Kao (179-1998, college: SEMO) contributed with 20 points and 4 assists for the winners. Lioneers' coach Wesam Al-Sous used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Liberian Lasan Kromah (198-1991, college: UConn, agency: LHZ Sport Agency) answered with 31 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for Taiwan Beer L.Lioneers maintains third place with 16-12 record having four points less than leader Taiwan Beer L. Taiwan Beer L. at the other side still keeps top position with ten games lost. Lioneers are looking forward to face N.Taipei CTBC (#5) at home in the next round. Taiwan Beer L. will play against Taipei TM (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about was the one when sixth ranked Mars (10-20) saved a 2-point victory edging 5th ranked DEA (14-15) 91-89 on Wednesday evening. It was a great evening for Cypriot-American center Darral Willis (206-1996, college: Wichita St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Sheng-Ju Ting helped adding 12 points and 10 assists. Mars' coach Hao-Cheng Hsu allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The former international forward Mohammad Gadiaga (188-1998) responded with 25 points. Taipei TM maintains sixth place with 10-20 record. N.Taipei CTBC at the other side keeps the fifth position with 15 games lost. Taipei TM will play against league's leader Taiwan Beer L. in Taoyuan in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. N.Taipei CTBC will play on the road against Lioneers (#3) in Hsinchu and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Taipei was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Kings (16-14) played at the court of 6th ranked Mars (10-20). Kings defeated Mars 116-102 on Sunday. It was an exceptional evening for Joseph Lin who led the winners and scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Makur Maker came up with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds for Taipei TM in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 16-14 record. Taipei TM lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 20 games lost. Kings' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Taipei to the arena N.Taipei CTBC.

It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Joseph Lin (186-1992, college: Hamilton) who led the winners and scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. American-Bulgarian center Jason Washburn (213-1990, college: Utah, agency: Pensack Sports) accounted for 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Kenyan-South Sudanese power forward Makur Maker (212-2000, college: Howard) came up with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and Cypriot-American center Darral Willis (206-1996, college: Wichita St.) added 22 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Taipei TM in the defeat. Five Kings and four Taipei TM players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 16-14 record.
