Al Jaish Damascus (SBL) has added 30-year-old Nigerian ex-international forward Daniel Ochefu (211cm-111kg-1993, college: Villanova) to their roster. He is the second foreign player on the team, with USA's Makye Richards having signed earlier. Ochefu recently played for Metal in the Mongolian MBL league and previously played for Lioneers in the Taiwanese PLeague+. In one MBL game this season, he recorded 4 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals.
He tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He also represented Nigeria at the Afrobasket Championship seven years ago. His team won Silver and his stats at that event were 5 games: 5.0ppg, 5.8rpg.
He is a very experienced player. Ochefu's career has taken him to four continents, where he has played in eleven countries. He has played professionally in Japan (Robots), Korea (Samsung Thunders), Lebanon (Al Riyadi), Mexico (Libertadores), Philippines (TNT Tropang), Spain (Breogan Lugo), Taiwan, Venezuela (Gaiteros and Gladiadores), NBA (Boston Celtics, NY Knicks and Washington Wizards), NBA G League (Stockton Kings, Maine Celtics and Windy City Bulls) and The Basketball Tournament (Team 23 and Team Heartfire).
He played in the final of West Asia Super League Final 8 in 2023 and was voted to Asia-Basket.com All-Korean KBL Honorable Mention in 2022.
He graduated from Villanova University in 2016 and is currently in his eighth season as a professional player.
