NBL Round 2 (Regular Season): Xin Hua hand first loss to Tagawa

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in NBL. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Tagawa in Singapore on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by Xin Hua 74-65. Zao Liang Chia orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds. Xing Yuan Han contributed with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. International forward Shi-Yu Ng (197-2000) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 12 rebounds for Tagawa. Tagawa's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Xin Hua will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tagawa's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore Siglap.
Important game to mention about took place in . Adroit saved a 3-point derby victory on the road edging SBA 68-65 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Malaysian Hua-Sen Liew Larry (-1993) scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Zhong-Han Wong chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. The former international guard Wei-Long Wong (187-1988) responded with 14 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Adroit will play against SG Bball in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SBA will play against Tong Whye to get more than just one victory in their record.
An interesting game for Hornets which played road game in against Nanyang. Hornets had an easy win 87-40. Jun Hao Mah notched 10 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort. Even 12 points and 8 rebounds by Benjamin Lim did not help to save the game for Nanyang. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 2: winless Chong Ghee was beaten by Tong Whye on the road 74-73. SAF lost to undefeated Xin Hua on its own court 68-88. SAF outscored Zebra in Singapore 91-60.




Tong Whye - Chong Ghee 74-73

No shocking result in a game when Tong Whye edged Chong Ghee in Singapore 74-73 on Sunday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The former international center Yeong-Wooi Khaw (200-1990) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and international guard Yuhui Zhen (180-1998) supported him with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Even 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists by Yuan Lim Jun did not help to save the game for Chong Ghee. Christian Pepito added 12 points for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Tong Whye will meet SBA in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Chong Ghee will play against SAF in Singapore and hope to win that game.

SBA - Adroit 65-68

Important game to mention about took place in . Adroit saved a 3-point derby victory on the road edging SBA 68-65 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Adroit outrebounded SBA 52-40 including 41 on the defensive glass. SBA was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Malaysian Hua-Sen Liew Larry (-1993) scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international point guard Zhong-Han Wong (183-1997) chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Four Adroit players scored in double figures. The former international guard Wei-Long Wong (187-1988) responded with 14 points and Leslie Chen scored 13 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Adroit will play against SG Bball in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SBA will play against Tong Whye to get more than just one victory in their record.

Nanyang - Hornets 40-87

An interesting game for Hornets which played road game in against Nanyang. Hornets had an easy win 87-40. Hornets dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Nanyang's 30. Hornets forced 23 Nanyang turnovers and outrebounded them 44-30 including 18 on the offensive glass. Jun Hao Mah notched 10 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and the former international guard Kelvin Lim (191-1996) supported him with 15 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Hornets players scored in double figures. Even 12 points and 8 rebounds by international guard Benjamin Lim (184-1997) did not help to save the game for Nanyang. Marvino Mohan added 8 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

SAF - Xin Hua 68-88

Very expected game when SAF was smashed by Xin Hua in Singapore 88-68 on Sunday. Xin Hua outrebounded SAF 62-42 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by SAF's players. Cheng Shan Tan notched 25 points to lead the effort and international guard Terry Lua (191-1997) supported him with 7 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 8 points and 8 rebounds by Chin-Seng Seah did not help to save the game for SAF. Andy Liow added 12 points for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Xin Hua will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. SAF will play against Chong Ghee and hope to win that game.

Zebra - SAF 60-91

But Zebra was not able to use a home court advantage and was rolled over by the opponent from Singapore 91-60 on Tuesday night. SAF dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Zebra's 40. Yew Wong-Teng notched 15 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Andy Liow supported him with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Even 10 points and 8 rebounds by the former international guard Gavin Tay (188-1999) did not help to save the game for Zebra. Kai Ning Ong added 12 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SAF will meet at home Chong Ghee in the next round where they are favorite. Zebra will have a break next round.
