NBL Round 6: Siglap hand first defeat to Hornets

Hornets (5-1) recorded its first loss in Singapore on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by fifth ranked Siglap (4-2) 56-54. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Hornets. The best player for the winners was Chiang Goh-Kok who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Yuan Lim Jun chipped in 12 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Malaysian Russell Low-Wen who recorded 21 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Hornets at the other side keep the second position with one game lost. They share it with Xin Hua. Siglap's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore SAF.

The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Xin Hua have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Hornets. Tong Whye at the other side dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with SG Bball. Xin Hua will play against Nanyang (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Tong Whye will play against the league's leader Adroit and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. GBA Hoops (1-5) left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with SAF. It was Tagawa's sixth loss in a row. They still close the standings with six games lost. GBA Hoops will meet at home higher ranked SG Bball (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tagawa's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Singapore to the arena Hornets.

In the last game of round 6 SG Bball defeated SAF in a road game 74-66.
The best stats of 6th round was 22 points and 7 rebounds by YU Ng-Shi of SAF.



Xin Hua - Tong Whye 75-53

GBA Hoops can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive losses. GBA Hoops held Tagawa to an opponent 23.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 31.3 percent accuracy of the winners. GBA Hoops had a 41-29 advantage in offensive rebounds. SAF - SG Bball 66-74

There was no surprise in Singapore where 8th ranked SAF (1-5) was defeated by sixth ranked SG Bball (3-3) 74-66 on Sunday. Strangely SAF outrebounded SG Bball 53-40 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Yang Ng-Shi scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Gary Yeo chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was YU Ng-Shi with 22 points and 7 rebounds and international center Lavin Raj V (200-2000) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds. Five SG Bball and four SAF players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. SG Bball moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Tong Whye. SAF lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with GBA Hoops. SG Bball will meet GBA Hoops (#8) in the next round. SAF's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Singapore to the arena Siglap.
