NBL Round 4: SAF is defeated by Xin Hua in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Singapore: Xin Hua (#4) and SAF (#). Xin Hua (4-2) smashed visiting SAF (0-0) by 16 points 74-58. Xin Hua forced 23 SAF turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Liang Chia-Zao who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and Christian Ubanan who added 10 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side YU Ng-Shi responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Xin Hua have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. SAF at the other side still closes the standings with 0 game lost. Xin Hua are looking forward to face SG Bball (#4) in the next round. SAF will have a break next round.
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Singapore: Hornets and Tong Whye (#3). Hornets (0-0) smashed visiting Tong Whye (3-3) by 22 points 78-56. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Tong Whye. The winners were led by Malaysian Russell Low-Wen who scored that evening 20 points and 9 rebounds and Kelvin Lim-Hong supported him with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Even 17 points by Zhen Zhen-Yu did not help to save the game for Tong Whye. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hornets maintains th position with 0-0 record. Tong Whye at the other side dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Hornets will play against GBA Hoops in the next round. Tong Whye's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore Tagawa.
Very important is a road loss of GBA Hoops (0-0) against seventh ranked Nanyang (3-3) on Sunday night. Visiting GBA Hoops were defeated by Nanyang in a tough game on the road 49-58. Aik Chua-Cheong fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Espinosa Haribon produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Nanyang moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. GBA Hoops at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with 0 game lost. Nanyang will meet Siglap (#7) in the next round. GBA Hoops will play against Hornets and hope to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 4 SG Bball won against Tagawa on the opponent's court 55-52. Siglap lost to undefeated Adroit in a home game 67-81.



Tagawa - SG Bball 52-55

Very expected game in Singapore where bottom-ranked Tagawa (0-6) was edged by sixth ranked SG Bball (3-3) 55-52 on Sunday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SG Bball made 8 blocks. Shengyu Lim fired a double-double by scoring 14 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Kelvin Liow chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Minghui Pan produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds and Ng Darren Jian added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. SG Bball moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Tagawa still closes the standings with six games lost. They share the position with Hoops. SG Bball will meet at home higher ranked Xin Hua (#3) in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Tagawa's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Singapore to the arena Tong Whye.

Rather predictable result in Singapore where top-ranked Adroit (7-0) defeated 4th ranked Siglap (3-3) 81-67 on Sunday. Adroit have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-0 record. Defending champion Siglap keeps the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Adroit will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Siglap will play against Nanyang (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
