Auckland Tuatara (NBL) strengthened their roster with the addition of experienced 40-year-old American 210cm power forward Chris Johnson (college: LSU, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance). He joins another USA player Josh Dilling who is already on the roster. It is actually his comeback to Tuatara as he has played here before. He played recently at Al Nasr in the Saudi Arabian SBL league. In four games, he recorded very impressive stats: 18.3ppg, 11.3rpg, and 2.5apg last season.
In 2010, a year after graduating, he was drafted by the Dakota Wizards (D-League) in the first round (9th overall).
Johnson graduated from Louisiana State University in 2009, and this will be his 17th season in pro basketball.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
Johnson, a very experienced player, has played professionally in sixteen different countries on five different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australia, and North America) during his pro career. He has played for teams in Bahrain (Al-Muharraq), China (Anhui Wenyi), Croatia (Cedevita), Dominican Republic (Parque Hostos), Japan (SeaHorses), Lebanon (Homentmen), Poland, Puerto Rico (Capitanes), Saudi Arabia, Taiwan (Braves and Kings), Turkey (Turk Telekom), UAE, NBA (Cleveland Cavaliers), NBA G League (Santa Cruz Warriors), United Arab Emirates (Shabab Al Ahli), and Big3 (Ghost Ballers and Triplets). In 2026, Johnson's team reached the Saudi Arabian Cup Finalist.
Among many awards, he was voted Australiabasket.com All-New Zealand NBL Center of the Year back in 2022. Johnson is close to retirement age as a player. It may be one of the last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Tuatara.
