SBL Round 12: Leader Al Hilal gets another victory

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Leader Al Hilal delivered the twelfth win on Friday night. This time they crushed 7th ranked Al Ansar (6-6) 104-84 in Riyadh. Al Hilal shot 61.5 percent from the field. They also forced 19 Al Ansar turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. Al Hilal looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Antwan Scott (185-92, college: Colorado St.) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. International center Mohammed Alsuwailem (211-98) chipped in 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Al Hilal's coach Stratos Koukoulekidis used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Armenian center Todd OBrien (211-89, college: UAB) who recorded 26 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Al Hilal (12-2) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Al Ansar at the other side keeps the seventh place with six games lost. Al Hilal are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Abha (#12) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Al Ansar will play against Abha (#12) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
Bottom-ranked Abha (0-12) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 96-49 loss to second ranked Al Nasr (10-2) in Abha. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. It was a good game for the former international guard Khalid Abdel-Gabar (188-90, college: Windsor) who led his team to a victory with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Musab Kadi contributed with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Al Nasr's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mostaf Khan replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds for Abha. Defending champion maintains second position with 10-2 record having 2 victories less than leader Al Hilal, which they share with Ohod. Newly promoted Abha still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Al Nasr will play against Al Wehda (#5) in Mecca in the next round. Abha will play at home against the league's leader Al Hilal (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
A very close game took place in Tabuk between Al Ahly and Duba Club. Seventh ranked Al Ahly (4-6) got a very close victory on the road over 11th ranked Duba Club (1-11). Al Ahly managed to escape with a 3-point win 74-71 on Friday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Yahya Ibrahim who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!) and 4 assists. Al Ahly's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Ahmed Ismail with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 31 rebounds and 4 assists. Despite that victory Al Ahly went down to eighth position due to points difference. Duba Club lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh place with 11 games lost. Al Ahly will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Duba Club will play against Al Ittihad (#4) and hope to win that game.

Rest of the games of round 12 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Al Wehda was crushed by Al Ittihad in Jeddah 90-69. Ohod beat Al Salam at home 75-64. Al Nahda lost to Al Fateh on the opponent's court 68-84.
The best stats of 12th round was 41 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds by Mohamed Harat of Al Fateh.



Duba Club - Al Ahly 71-74

A very close game took place in Tabuk between Al Ahly and Duba Club. Seventh ranked Al Ahly (4-6) got a very close victory on the road over 11th ranked Duba Club (1-11). Al Ahly managed to escape with a 3-point win 74-71 on Friday evening. Strangely Duba Club outrebounded Al Ahly 48-29 including 17 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Yahya Ibrahim who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!) and 4 assists and American forward Steve Taylor Jr. (206-93, college: Toledo) who added 12 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Al Ahly's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Egyptian center Ahmed Ismail (216-95, college: IUPUI) with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 31 rebounds and 4 assists and Osama Almuwallad scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Four Duba Club players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Al Ahly went down to eighth position due to points difference. Duba Club lost fifth consecutive game. Four Al Ittihad players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international center Mohammed AlMarwani (206-89) with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 15 rebounds and American-Bahrain Wayne Chism (206-87, college: Tennessee) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Shane Rector (188-94, college: Utah St.) who helped to win the game recording 31 points and 5 rebounds and center Hassan Ali who added 9 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. Ohod's coach Fuad Abou Chakra allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Algerian center Touhami Ghezzoul (209-87, college: N.Dakota St.) with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 13 rebounds and Mohammed Iqbal scored 11 points and 5 assists.
