Al Hilal - Abha 102-53 Al Hilal smashed Abha in Riyadh 102-53. Al Hilal dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Abha's 34. Al Hilal forced 26 Abha turnovers and outrebounded them 39-23 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Abha's players. The best player for the winners was American guard Antwan Scott (185-92, college: Colorado St., agency: Duran International) who had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 11 assists. The former international guard Nasser Alabsi (183-93) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Al Hilal players scored in double figures. Al Hilal's coach Stratos Koukoulekidis felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Tunisian Hamza Aiouz (-89) who recorded 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and guard Mohaned Shabin added 9 points respectively. Abha will play next round against Al Salam trying to get back on the winning streak. Al Hilal will try to continue on its current victory against Al Wehda in Mecca. Al Ittihad had such big advantage that coach Mohamed Kardani felt comfortable to give the chance to play for 11 players saving starting five for next games. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Al Nasr made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for the former international guard Khalid Abdel-Gabar (188-90, college: Windsor) who led his team to a victory scoring 30 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international Jaber Al Kabe (184-85) helped adding 20 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Algerian forward Mohamed Harat (198-90) with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds (on 15-of-19 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Mohammed Al-Saqer (179-85) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Al Nasr will meet Duba Club (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Fateh will play against Al Ansar and hopes to get finally their first victory.
