QBL Round 7 of Regular Season

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in QBL. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise of round 7 was guest Qatar Club's (4-2) road victory over 5th ranked Al Wakrah (3-3) 105-91 on Wednesday evening. Qatar Club made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 39 assists. Serbian Dejan Janjic (198-1995) fired a triple-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 12 rebounds, 12 assists and 5 steals for the winners. American guard Brian Halums (196-1997, college: UAFS) chipped in 25 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. American guard Donte McGill (190-1995, college: FIU, agency: Green Sports Management) produced 28 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for lost side. Qatar Club moved-up to third place, which they share with Al Arabi and Al Shamal. Al Wakrah at the other side dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Qatar Club will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al Wakrah will play on the road against Al Shamal (#3) in Doha and is hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Sadd (#1) and Al Ahli (#7). Al Ahli was defeated at home 68-79 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Worth to mention a great performance of American-German forward Waverly Austin (211-1991, college: Oregon, agency: Diamond Sports) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds, 15 assists and 7 blocks. Vander Blue contributed with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 steals for the winners. The former international swingman Khalid Abdi (198-1987) answered with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for Al Ahli. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-1 record. Al Ahli lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with five games lost. Al Sadd will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Gharafa.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Doha: Al Sadd (#1) and Al Shamal (#2). Al Sadd (5-1) won against visiting Al Shamal (4-2) 92-79. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It was a great evening for Waverly Austin who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 28 points, 14 rebounds, 14 assists and 5 steals. At the losing side Sindou Diallo responded with 31 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-1 record. Loser Al Shamal dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Qatar Club and Al Arabi. Al Sadd's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha .

Other games of round 7 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Al Khor was defeated by Al Gharafa in Doha 91-73. Al Rayyan was beaten by Al Arabi at home 64-72. Al Rayyan destroyed Al Ahli on the opponent's court 96-54.
The best stats of 7th round was 21 points, 15 rebounds, 15 assists and 4 blocks by Mouhammad Faye of Al Rayyan.



Al Ahli - Al Sadd 68-79

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Sadd (#1) and Al Ahli (#7). Al Ahli was defeated at home 68-79 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Al Sadd players were unselfish on offense dishing 43 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American-German forward Waverly Austin (211-1991, college: Oregon, agency: Diamond Sports) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds, 15 assists and 7 blocks. American Vander Blue (196-1992, college: Marquette) contributed with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 steals for the winners. Al Gharafa - Al Khor 91-73

The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Al Khor's (0-6) road loss to eighth ranked Al Gharafa (1-4) 73-91 on Tuesday. Al Gharafa looked well-organized offensively handing out 38 assists. It was a great evening for the former international center Mohd Yousuf Mohmmed (204-1982) who led his team to a victory scoring 31 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Kenny Brown (188-1991, college: Ferris St., agency: SLN) helped adding 26 points and 6 steals. Al Gharafa's coach Kosay Hatem used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American power forward Tony Criswell (205-1991, college: Missouri) responded with a triple-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists and the other American import point guard Ameer Jackson (193-1994, college: WSSU) scored 26 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals (made all of his seven free throws). Al Gharafa maintains eighth place with 1-4 record. It was Al Khor's sixth loss in a row. They still close the standings with six games lost. Al Gharafa's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Ahli.

Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Doha: Al Sadd (#1) and Al Shamal (#2). Al Sadd (5-1) won against visiting Al Shamal (4-2) 92-79. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 45 assists. Al Rayyan - Al Arabi 64-72

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Doha where sixth ranked Al Arabi (4-2) defeated 5th ranked Al Rayyan (5-3) 72-64 on Friday. Al Arabi dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Al Rayyan's 22. Al Arabi had a 38-27 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 44 assists. It was a great evening for American-Nigerian guard Kelechi Ajukwa (201-1995, college: Charlotte) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 28 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. American Xavier Ford (203-1993, college: Buffalo) helped adding 21 points, 14 rebounds, 14 assists and 4 steals. At the losing side American guard Malik Curry (185-1999, college: WVU, agency: Green Sports Management) responded with 30 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals and Senegalese power forward Mouhammad Faye (207-1985, college: SMU) produced a triple-double by scoring 10 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists. Al Arabi have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Qatar Club and Al Shamal. Loser Al Rayyan dropped to the second position with three games lost. Rather expected game in Doha where 7th ranked Al Ahli (2-5) was rolled over by fifth ranked Al Rayyan (5-3) 96-54 on Wednesday. Al Rayyan forced 23 Al Ahli turnovers and outrebounded them 34-23 including 21 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists. It was a great evening for Senegalese power forward Mouhammad Faye (207-1985, college: SMU) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 21 points, 15 rebounds, 15 assists and 4 blocks. American guard Malik Curry (185-1999, college: WVU, agency: Green Sports Management) helped adding 27 points and 11 steals. Al Rayyan's coach Stergios Koufos felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international swingman Khalid Abdi (198-1987) responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals and international forward Ndoye Seydou (205-1999) scored 17 points and 4 steals. Al Rayyan moved-up to second place. Al Ahli lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with five games lost.
