Regular Season Round 7: Al Ahli - Al Sadd 68-79

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Sadd (#1) and Al Ahli (#7). Al Ahli was defeated at home 68-79 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Al Sadd players were unselfish on offense dishing 43 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American-German forward Waverly Austin (211-1991, college: Oregon, agency: Diamond Sports) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds, 15 assists and 7 blocks. American Vander Blue (196-1992, college: Marquette) contributed with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 steals for the winners. The former international swingman Khalid Abdi (198-1987) answered with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals and Moustafa Nado added 10 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Al Ahli. Four Al Sadd and five Al Ahli players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-1 record. Al Ahli lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with five games lost. Al Sadd will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Gharafa.
