PBA Round 12 (Regular Season): Phoenix hands first defeat to Rain or Shine

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Undefeated Painters (7-1) recorded its first loss in Manila on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Masters (5-3) 87-83. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Painters. Phoenix looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American power forward James Dickey III (208-1996, college: UNCG, agency: JCK Sports Group) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 19 rebounds. Guard Tyler Tio (183-1998) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Jaylen Johnson (206-1996, college: Louisville, agency: Octagon Europe) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Phoenix maintains sixth position with 5-3 record. Rain or Shine at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Haitian center Cady Lalanne (208-1992, college: UMass) replied with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds for NLEX RW. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Hotshots. NLEX RW at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. SM Beermen will play against Blackwater (#12) in Caloocan City in the next round where they are favorite. NLEX RW will have a break next round.
Black Bears can celebrate finally their first win this season after seven consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Risers (2-6) 119-107 on Tuesday. Worth to mention a great performance of Phoenix Shackelford who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was Fran Yu with 35 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Risers' coach rotated fourteen players in this game, but that didn't help. Black Bears maintains thirteenth position with 1-7 record. It was Titan UGR's third loss in a row. They keep the tenth place with six games lost. They share the position with FiberXers. Macau will meet higher ranked TNT Tropang (#5) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Titan UGR will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 12 FiberXers were defeated by Hotshots in Pasig City 106-94.



NLEX RW - SM Beermen 94-98

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Warriors (6-2) against eighth ranked Beermen (4-4) on Sunday night. Host Warriors were defeated by Beermen in a tough game in Makati City 94-98. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Warriors. It was a good game for American forward Bennie Boatwright (208-1996, college: USC) who led his team to a victory with 41 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Hotshots - FiberXers 106-94

There was no surprise in Pasig City where 10th ranked FiberXers (2-6) were defeated by seventh ranked Hotshots (4-4) 106-94 on Sunday. Hotshots made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Hotshots outrebounded FiberXers 48-31 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Hotshots especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Clinton Chapman (208-1989, college: Texas, agency: Diamond Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and naturalized American forward Zavier Lucero (198-1999, college: Cal Maritime) who added 17 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was naturalized Spanish guard Juan Gomez De Liano (184-1999) with 22 points and forward Justine Arana (201-1999) scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four FiberXers players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hotshots maintains seventh position with 4-4 record, which they share with SM Beermen. Loser FiberXers keep the tenth place with six games lost. They share the position with Titan UGR. Hotshots will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. FiberXers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Makati TNT Tropang.
