FiberXers - NLEX RW 108-84 There was no surprise in Makati where 8th ranked NLEX RW (3-4) was crushed by third ranked FiberXers (6-2) 108-84 on Saturday. FiberXers outrebounded NLEX RW 59-42 including a 46-32 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Guard Aljun Melecio stepped up and scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and American forward Quincy Miller-Scott (206-1992, college: Baylor, agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Brandon Rosser (201-1994, college: UC Riverside) responded with 24 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import Earl Clark (208-1988, college: Louisville) scored 15 points and 9 rebounds. Four NLEX RW players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. FiberXers have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Bay Area D. NLEX RW at the other side keeps the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with SM Beermen. FiberXers will meet Phoenix (#5) in the next round. NLEX RW will play against North Port and it may be a tough game between close rivals. TNT Tropang outrebounded Terrafirma Dyip 51-36 including 38 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Terrafirma Dyip's players. American forward Cameron Oliver (203-1996, college: Nevada) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and power forward John Paul Erram (203-1989) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Five TNT Tropang players scored in double figures. At the losing side British V.Islands-Indonesian center Lester Prosper (210-1988, college: Old Westbury, agency: YoungGroup Unlimited) responded with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 15 rebounds and forward Eric Camson (193-1990) scored 16 points. TNT Tropang moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Rain or Shine. Terrafirma Dyip at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Hotshots smashed 11th ranked Blackwater Elite in Pasig City 91-69. Hotshots dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Blackwater Elite's 34. Hotshots forced 19 Blackwater Elite turnovers and outrebounded them 50-35 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Hotshots looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Serbian-American forward Nick Rakocevic (211-1997, college: USC, agency: Pensack Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Jiovani Jalalon (175-1992) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Four Hotshots players scored in double figures. American center Cameron Krutwig (206-1998, college: Loyola, IL) produced 8 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists and Renato Ular added 14 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Blackwater Elite lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with six games lost. Blackwater Elite will play next round against Meralco Bolts trying to get back on the winning streak. Hotshots will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fifth ranked Ginebra Kings (5-2) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 8th ranked SM Beermen (3-4) 97-96 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of SM Beermen. Ginebra Kings forced 19 SM Beermen turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Ginebra Kings brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Justin Brownlee (197-1988, college: St.John's) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 9 assists. Guard Scottie Thompson (188-1993) contributed with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Brownlee is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Ginebra Kings' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American power forward Devon Scott (206-1994, college: Dayton) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 21 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Jaymar Perez (188-1993) added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for SM Beermen. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ginebra Kings have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion SM Beermen keeps the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with NLEX RW. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
