LBL Round 22: Sagesse beat Beirut Club in a derby game- March 21, 2023

Byblos - Homentmen 93-99 There was no surprise when 12th ranked Byblos (2-18) were defeated at home by tenth ranked Homentmen (6-13) 99-93 on Saturday. The game was dominated by American players. DaJuan Summers (203-1988, college: Georgetown) had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Mark Lyons (185-1989, college: Arizona) chipped in 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Four Homentmen players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Brandon Parrish (198-1994, college: TCU) responded with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and power forward CJ Aiken (206-1990, college: St.Joseph's, agency: BIG) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 19 rebounds. Homentmen moved-up to ninth place. Byblos lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 18 lost games. Liders forced 20 Atlas turnovers. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Stanley Davis Jr (196-1998, college: Morgan St.) scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Alex Peacock (199-1997, college: Texas St.) chipped in 19 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. Five Liders players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Myles Carter (185-1999, college: Delaware St., agency: Diamond Sports) responded with 37 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and power forward Mason Harrell (203-1997, college: WSSU) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 18 rebounds. Newly promoted Liders maintains fifth position with 9-11 record. Atlas lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 16 games lost. Sagesse (17-2) won against visiting Beirut Club (17-3) 82-73. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Beirut Club. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Sagesse dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Beirut Club's 22. American Kerwin Roach II (192-1996, college: Texas) fired 29 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The other American import power forward Cliff Alexander (203-1995, college: Kansas, agency: MSG) chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds. Sagesse's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international power forward Mohamad Haidar (203-1990, college: Michigan Tech) produced 19 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Kenny Hayes (189-1987, college: Miami, OH) added 24 points respectively for lost side. Sagesse have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Defending champion Beirut Club dropped to the third position with three games lost. Sagesse's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beirut Al Riyadi. Al Riyadi (16-3) smashed visiting Antranik (7-11) by 25 points 108-83. They outrebounded Antranik 44-24 including a 35-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Riyadi players were unselfish on offense dishing 35 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Antranik's players. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Hayk Gyokchyan (203-1990, college: F&M) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Egyptian center Ismail Moneim (205-1976) contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. American guard Jordan Jackson (190-1997, college: UTRGV) replied with 27 points and 4 assists and point guard Joel Abdallah (182-1997) added 11 points, 5 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Antranik. Antranik's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Al Riyadi have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 16-3 record. Antranik at the other side keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost. U.S. Virgin Islands forward Romani Hansen (203-1997, college: Albany) had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Roosevelt Scott (193, college: Central Mo.) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Five Hoops players scored in double figures. At the losing side Serbian-Montenegrin forward Milko Bjelica (207-1984, agency: BIG) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Dallas Morgan (185, college: CMU) scored 25 points and 9 rebounds. NSA's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Hoops maintains eighth position with 7-13 record. Newly promoted NSA dropped to the tenth place with 14 games lost. Hoops will meet at home bottom-ranked Byblos (#12) in the next round. NSA will play against Champville in Dik El Mehdi and hope to secure a win.
