LBL Round 18: Beirut Club is upset by Champville

What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most important game in the last round took place in Beirut between second ranked Beirut Club (8-5) and fourth ranked Champville (8-4) on Saturday night. Beirut Club was defeated by Champville in a tough game at home 69-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Beirut Club. It was a key game for the second position in the league. They outrebounded Beirut Club 44-21 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Jad Bitar (204-88, agency: BIG) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. International guard Sergio El Darwich (193-96, college: Maine) chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Patrick Bou Abboud (199-87) who recorded 16 points and 7 rebounds. Champville moved-up to second place. Beirut Club at the other side dropped to the third position with five games lost.
Leader Al Riyadi delivered the twelfth victory. This time they crushed 7th ranked Moutahed (5-8) 85-57 in Tripoli. It was a good game for forward Hayk Gyokchyan (203-90, college: F&M, agency: BIG) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Mark Khoury contributed with 14 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Guard Malek Hijazi (190-94, college: West LA) replied with 19 points and 9 rebounds for Moutahed. Moutahed's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Al Riyadi (12-1) have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Moutahed at the other side dropped to the eighth place with eight games lost.



Beirut Club - Champville 69-78

Al Riyadi dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Moutahed's 36. It was a good game for forward Hayk Gyokchyan (203-90, college: F&M, agency: BIG) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman Mark Khoury (196-98) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Four Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. Guard Malek Hijazi (190-94, college: West LA) replied with 19 points and 9 rebounds and Ibrahim Haddad (-98) added 12 points in the effort for Moutahed.
