We bring you last week's top performances from Lebaneses who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international guard
Wael Arakji (194-94, currently plays in Qatar). He led
Al Shamal to a victory over the closely-ranked Al Arabi (10-2) crushing them
97-75 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 in Wednesday night's game.
Arakji was MVP of the game. He recorded 26 points (!!!), 4 rebounds and 9 assists in 40 minutes on the court.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Al Shamal Doha (9-4) is placed third in the D1.
Arakji's team will play only one more game in the Semifinals. And that game will be critical.
Arakji has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 26.8ppg, 6.0rpg, 5.6apg, 1.7spg, 2FGP: 56.7%(101-178), 3FGP: 27.4% and FT: 75.7% in 13 games he played so far.
Arakji is currently a member of the Lebanese senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an experienced international center
Ater Majok (208-87, college:
UConn, currently plays in Qatar). He contributed to an
Al Arabi's victory against the closely-ranked Al Sadd (7-5)
98-87 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 last Sunday.
Majok recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 17 rebounds. He also added 7 assists and 4 blocks.
Al Arabi Club Doha (10-2) is placed second in the D1.
It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row.
They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial.
This season Majok has very high stats. He averages: 17.1ppg, 14.0rpg, 3.7apg, 3.8bpg, 2FGP: 59.8%(58-97), 3FGP: 46.4%(13-28) and FT: 73.5%.
Majok has a dual citizenship: South Sudanese and Lebanese.
Ex-Homenetmen Beirut player is in the roster of the Lebanese senior national team.
#3. The Lebanese player who performed third best last week abroad was former international point guard
Jad Khalil (186-96, agency:
BIG, currently plays in Serbia). He could not help
Kolubara (8-9) in their last game. Despite Khalil's very good performance Kolubara was edged
96-95 on the road by the lower-ranked (#11) Sloga.
He scored 16 points and added 5 passes (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) in 21 minutes.
It's Khalil's first season with the team.
This year Khalil's overall stats are: 7.0ppg, 1.9rpg, 2.2apg, 3FGP: 44.7% and FT: 79.3% in 16 games.
He played for the Lebanese national team two years ago.
#4. Guard
Joseph Chartouny (190-94, also represented by
BIG, college:
Marquette, currently plays in France) was not able to help
Union Rennes (3-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Chartouny's very good performance the ninth-placed Union Rennes (3-5) was edged
81-78 on the opponent's court by the second-ranked Toulouse in the Group A.
He was the top scorer with 19 points. Chartouny also added 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals.
This season Chartouny has very high stats. He averages: 17.5ppg, 6.5rpg, 6.5apg and 3.5spg.
Chartouny is another player who holds two passports: Canadian and Lebanese.
He is also Lebanese national team player.
