Defending champion Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut (LBL) added to their roster experienced 35-year old American power forward Darian Townes (208-113kg-84, college: Arkansas). He is the second import player in the roster as Egyptian Ahmad Ismail signed here earlier.
Townes started the season at Samsun BSB Anakent in Turkish TBL league. In 5 games he recorded very impressive stats: 18.6ppg, 11.6rpg, 1.0apg and 2.0bpg this season. The last season Townes played at Atlas where in 17 LBL games he averaged remarkable 18.8ppg, 10.9rpg (#2 in the league), 2.7apg and 2.1bpg. A very spectacular season in his career as he was voted to Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League 2nd Team, All-Imports Team and League Player of the Week (2 times).
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Townes was voted Asia-basket.com All-Taiwanese SBL Defensive Player of the Year back in 2016.
He is quite experienced player. Thanks to Townes' pro career he managed to play on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America) in eleven different countries. Townes has played previously professionally in Holland, Hungary (Sopron KC), Japan (Link Tochigi Brex Utsunomiya), Korea (Samsung Thunders, KCC Egis and KT Sonicboom), Poland, Puerto Rico, Qatar (Al Rayyan), Taiwan (Taiwan Mobile and Pauian), Lebanon (Champville and Al Moutahed), Dominican Republic (Reales de La Vega) and D-League (Utah F.).
It's very possible he may end his playing career at Al Riyadi.
Townes attended University of Arkansas until 2008 and it is his twelfth (!!!) season as a professional player.
