Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut (LBL) signed experienced 34-year old Nigerian international center Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (207-100kg-85, college: Maryland). He played last season at Levallois Metropolitans in French Jeep ELITE ProA. In 30 games he had 7.1ppg and 4.7rpg.
The previous (17-18) season Ibekwe played at Chalons Reims (ProA) in French league where in 19 games he recorded 8.9ppg and 4.2rpg. He also played for Oettinger Rockets Gotha (BBL) in German league. In 12 games he averaged 11.3ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.1spg and 1.8bpg. Ibekwe also spent pre-season at Chalon/Saor (ProA) in French league.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2012.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Ibekwe won French ProA championship title in 2017. He was also voted Australiabasket.com Australian NBL All-Imports Team back in 2015.
Ibekwe represented Nigeria at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) three years ago.
He is quite experienced player. Ibekwe has played in nine different countries on five different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australia and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Israel, Puerto Rico (Manati), Russia (Krasny Oktyabr), Spain, Turkey (Usak Sportlif), Australia (United and New Zealand Breakers), Lebanon (Sagesse), Germany (Deutsche Bank Skyliners) and Czech Republic (CEZ Nymburk).
Ibekwe attended University of Maryland until 2007 and it will be his 13th (hopefully lucky) (!!!) season as a professional player.
He could be described: A long, lean dynamic post player with unlimited athletic potential. a talented shooter for his size who can take the ball to the basket and score in the post ... a high-flying finisher and shot blocker.
