Higher League Round 22: Almaty L. defeat Bars in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 22 in the Higher League took place in Petropavlovsk. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of their biggest opponent Bars (20-2) to third ranked Almaty L. (18-4) 87-86 on Monday evening. Almaty L. made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Guard Stanislav Sahipov (190-2002) scored 30 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) to lead the charge for the winners and center Daniel Albrant (205-1998) chipped in 17 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-1994) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Almaty L. have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Almaty L. maintains third position with 18-4 record having just three points less than leader Shymkent. Bars at the other side keep the second place with two games lost.
The game in Atyrau was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Almaty L. (18-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Barsy 2 (9-13). Almaty L. did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 81-62. Point guard Daniil Severgin (183-2005) notched 21 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Nikita Timofeev supported him with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Almaty L.'s coach Nikolai Tanaseychuk allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 21 points by forward Abat Marat (180-2005) did not help to save the game for Barsy 2. Almaty L. have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Almaty L. maintains third position with 18-4 record having just three points less than leader Shymkent. Barsy 2 at the other side keeps the seventh place with 13 games lost.
Second ranked Bars (20-2) crushed at home 8th ranked Gotobeles (8-14) by 34 points 83-49, which is the biggest margin this round on Tuesday night. Maksim Nalogov fired a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Daulet Bekbauov produced 12 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bars maintains second position with 20-2 record behind leader Shymkent. Newly promoted Gotobeles keep the eighth place with 14 games lost.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 22: Gotobeles won against Caspiy Aktau on the opponent's court 77-73. Barsy 2 managed to outperform ChelSU in a home game 80-72. ChelSU managed to beat Caspiy Aktau on the road 73-67.



Caspiy Aktau - Gotobeles 73-77

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Gotobeles and 9th ranked Caspiy Aktau had identical 7-14 record. But Caspiy Aktau was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Nur-Sultan 77-73 on Monday night. Gotobeles had a 37-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. Swingman Eset Zharkylov (195-1998) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 19 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Swingman Daulet Bekbauov (191-1999) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Swingman Dmitry Denisov (194-2005) produced 12 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his thirteen free throws !!!) and guard Zahar Medovskoy (188-2006) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Gotobeles maintains eighth position with 8-14 record. Loser Caspiy Aktau keeps the ninth place with 15 games lost. They share the position with ChelSU.

Barsy 2 - ChelSU 80-72

Rather predictable result in Atyrau where seventh ranked Barsy 2 (9-13) defeated 10th ranked ChelSU (7-15) 80-72 on Monday. Barsy 2 forced 19 ChelSU turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by ChelSU's players. Guard Sabyrzhan Ibragimov (185-2004) fired 25 points, 6 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Forward Begzod Mammatrimov (198-2004) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Barsy 2 players scored in double figures. Guard Dmitriy Luchko (193-1997) produced a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and guard Artem Pedko (191-2000) added 6 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. ChelSU's coach Alexander Derbush rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Barsy 2 maintains seventh position with 9-13 record. Newly promoted ChelSU dropped to the ninth place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Caspiy Aktau.

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 9th ranked Caspiy Aktau (7-15) was defeated at home by tenth ranked ChelSU (7-15) 73-67 on Tuesday. ChelSU forced 22 Caspiy Aktau turnovers. Guard Dmitriy Luchko (193-1997) fired a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 20 rebounds for the winners. Guard Artem Pedko (191-2000) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Swingman Damir Nursiitov (195-2002) produced 13 points and 9 rebounds and guard Zhanibek Dzhakauov (172-2002) added 15 points and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Four Caspiy Aktau players scored in double figures. ChelSU moved-up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Caspiy Aktau.

Almaty L. dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Barsy 2's 24 and made 22-of-28 charity shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Almaty L. forced 20 Barsy 2 turnovers and outrebounded them 39-26 including 24 on the defensive glass. Point guard Daniil Severgin (183-2005) notched 21 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his thirteen free throws !!!) to lead the effort and forward Nikita Timofeev (199-1998) supported him with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Four Almaty L. players scored in double figures. Almaty L.'s coach Nikolai Tanaseychuk allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games.
