Astana Tigers triumph in the country! - Apr 18, 2009
Astana Tigers triumph in the country as the team won the decisive game over Irtysh. The road to the throne was hard enough and the Final series proved that the basketball development is on the right way in Kazakhstan.
In Game 1 both favorites show the strength of their possibilities and played well until the last seconds. Astana Tigers was glad to grab the win in the opener, taking 53:50 victory. The series was not over between two best teams from Kazakhstan as Irtysh bounced back in Game 2. The latter overcame Tigers 68:63 to tie the series.
Last night Astana Tigers started offensively to take 10-points lead in the opening quarter. Irtysh however did not panic and managed to bounce back in the third period. That time Astana lost the wining tempo and started to fail in the game. Irtysh tasted the lead for a short period of time, however Zhuldyz Baydusenova (189-F/C-83), Anastasia Alishauskaite (170-G-88) and Natalia Kuzmicheva (192-F/C-76) decided to push the tempo up for the team from the capital. The Tigers were too strong and won the decisive game, 75:66.
Anastasia Alishauskaite was awarded the MVP of the tournament. Natalia Kuzmicheva became the best Center, while Oxana Ivanova (190-C-90) celebrated the Most Improved Award.
