BC Astana are back on the Kazakh championship summit. They defeated Barsy in Atyrau tonight to sweep the title series regaining the title. Andreas Glyniadakis (215-C-81, agency: Beo Basket) delivered 25 points and 7 rebounds to pace the winners.
BC Astana set the tone early in the game. They fired 26 points in the opening quarter to gain a 6-point lead. The visitors maintained the lead throughout the second frame. They ensured a 46:38 halftime advantage. Barsy cut the deficit in the third stanza. Barsy tried to revive the intrigue in the game and the series after the break. The hosts cut the deficit and trailed by just 6 points into the fourth frame. But BC Astana gave little chance for the home side. The visitors unleashed 27 points in the final stanza and sealed the winning outcome at the end. David Simon (208-C-82, college: IPFW) provided 19 points, while Branko Cvetkovic (200-F/G-84, agency: Beo Basket) added 15 points for the winners. Zambalist Fredrick (183-G-86, college: S.Carolina) answered with 18 points for Barsy. Mikhail Evstigneev (201-F/C-84) chipped in 16 points in the loss.

BC Astana claim Kazakh Cup title - Feb 27, 2013

BC Astana proved once again their dominance at the Kazakh basketball scene. They clinched the Kazakh Cup title at the weekend. BC Astana claimed four victories in as many games played to bag the trophy.
Astana opened the proceedings with an 84:50 victory over Kaspiy. David Simon (208-C-82, college: IPFW) posted 23 points and 6 boards to lead the winners. Klimov contributed 11 points for BC Astana. Kazancev answered with 7 points for Kaspiy.
Next BC Astana cruised past Tobol 93:66 behind 19 points from Kolesnikov. David Simon added 14 points for the winners. Karimulin responded with 9 points for Tobol.
Kapshagay gave a tough battle to BC Astana before losing 71:79. Maxim Voyeykov (198-F-88) delivered 15 points, while David Simon contributed 14 points for the winning side. Shepil responded with 14 points for Kapshagay.
Finally BC Astana faced their archrivals Barsy Atyrau. BC Astana led by a single point after the first half 48:47. However they held their opponents to 30 points in the second half and eked out an 84:77 victory at the end. David Simon topscored for BC Astana with 22 points. Branko Cvetkovic (200-F/G-84, agency: Beo Basket) added 18 points as the winners clinched the Cup title. Zambalist responded with 23 points for Barsy.

Kaspiy celebrate D1 Bronze - Apr 24, 2013

Kapshagay - Kaspiy Aktau 81:85

Kaspiy Aktau claimed the D1 championship Bronze medals. They overcame Kapshgay in the consolation final series. Richard Kris came up with 22 points and 10 rebounds to pace Kaspiy to the decisive victory in the fourth game of the series.
Kaspiy started the game strong. They registered a 25:15 lead after ten minutes of action. The Aktau team traded baskets with their opponents throughout the second quarter. The visitors secured a 10-point lead heading into the second half 47:37. Kapshagay cut the deficit in the third term. The home side got within 9 points at the final intermission. Kapshagay got closer in the fourth frame. The hosts increased the pressure and got within striking distance. But Kaspiy hung on to escape with the victory at the end. David Nesbitt (200-F-91, college: St.Thomas, FL) accounted for 21 points, while Andrei Malyshev (208-C-85) added 15 points for the winners. Yuriy Kozhanov (194-G-90) responded with 19 points for Kapshagay. Ivan Krivko (190-G-84) netted 16 points in the loss.
