B1 League Round 53 (Regular Season): Leader Nagasaki loses to Hiroshima D.

The Regular Season in B1 League is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 7 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Top ranked Velca (41-12) recorded its twelfth loss in Nagasaki on Wednesday night. Hosts were edged by sixth ranked Dragonflies (30-23) 83-82. Jamaican center Kofi Cockburn (213-1999, college: Illinois) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds. Dragonflies' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Tenth-ranked Evessa (20-33) made lots of trouble for first ranked Tochigi Brex (40-13). Tochigi Brex managed to secure only three-point victory 80-77. However their fans expected much easier game. American power forward Gavin Edwards (206-1988, college: UConn, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 8 rebounds. DJ Newbill contributed with 20 points and 4 assists for the winners. Defending champion maintains first place with 40-13 record, which they share with Nagoya DD. Osaka E. at the other side keeps the tenth position with 33 games lost. Tochigi Brex will play against league's second-placed Gunma CT on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Osaka E. will play against Kawasaki (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Yokohama between B-Corsairs and Alvark. Seventh ranked B-Corsairs (24-29) got a very close home victory over 4th placed Alvark (35-18). B-Corsairs managed to escape with a 2-point win 85-83 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Alvark. Damien Inglis stepped up and scored 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Marcus Foster responded with 17 points and 8 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. B-Corsairs have a solid series of four victories in a row. Yokohama BC maintains seventh place with 24-29 record, which they share with Shimane SM. Chiba Jets looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists.
