Gunma Crane Thunders (B1 League) signed 30-year old German international power forward Johannes Thiemann (206cm-102kg-1994) for the upcoming 2024-25 season. He has played for the last six years at ALBA Berlin in the German BBL league. The team played in three different competitions that year, and he was exposed to basketball on different levels. In 32 BBL games, he had 12.1ppg, 4.4rpg, and 1.8apg last season. He helped them to make it to the German Bundesliga final after they ended the regular season as the second-best team. In 2023-24, he was named to Eurobasket.com German Bundesliga All-Domestic Players Team and Eurobasket.com All-German Bundesliga Second Team. Thiemann also played 29 games in the Euroleague, where he recorded 12.7ppg, 5.3rpg, and 1.9apg. In 2023-24, he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Euroleague Honorable Mention.
Thiemann has been a member of the German international program for some years. He has regularly played for the German senior team since 2016 and previously for the Under 20 National Team in 2014.
He also represented Germany at the FIBA World Cup in Philippines-Japan-Indonesia last year. Thiemann's team won Gold and he had 7 ppg.
Thiemann has played professionally for other German teams such as EnBW Ludwigsburg, Brose Bamberg, Breitenguessbach, Young Pikes, and Regnitztal.
Among many awards, his team won the German Bundesliga Regular Season in 2022. He was also voted Eurobasket.com All-German 2.Bundesliga Pro A Most Improved Player of the Year and Eurobasket.com All-German 2.Bundesliga Pro A Domestic Player of the Year back in 2016.
