Toyotsu Fighting Eagles Nagoya (B1 League) have signed 24-year-old American 206cm swingman Matthew Mayer (college: Illinois, agency: Octagon Europe) for the upcoming season. Mayer, who most recently played for Texas Legends (NBA G League) in the U.S., averaged just 2.0ppg and 2.0rpg in 9 NBA-G-League games last season. During the previous (2022-23) season, he played for Fighting Illini in the U.S. semi-pro league NCAA.
He has also played professionally in the NBA (Houston Rockets) and NBA G League (RGV Vipers).
Between winning the NCAA championship title in 2021, Mayer was voted to All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2022.
He graduated from the University of Illinois in 2023 and it'll be his second season in pro basketball. Mayer played also for Baylor University for 4 years.
