B3 League Round 29: #1 Shizuoka is defeated by Kagoshima

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Shizuoka (27-3) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by third ranked Kagoshima (25-5) 84-81. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Shizuoka. Kagoshima looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kagoshima made 7 blocks. American swingman Anthony Gaines Jr (195-1993, college: LCU) stepped up and scored 28 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Logan Routt (211-1997, college: WVU) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Kagoshima's coach Predrag Krunic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American center Kenny Lawson (207-1988, college: Creighton) responded with 28 points and 7 rebounds. Kagoshima maintains third place with 25-5 record having just two points less than leader Shizuoka. Shizuoka at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Kagoshima are looking forward to face Yokohama EX (#5) in Tokyo in the next round. Shizuoka will play on the road against Tokyo Utd (#7) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Tachikawa. Fourteenth ranked Tachikawa (9-21) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 12th ranked Yamaguchi (9-21) 83-82 in the game for the twelfth place. American forward Tristin Walley (201-1996, college: Arkansas St., agency: One Motive Sports) nailed 22 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winning side and Scott Blakney accounted for 18 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Jamaican-British center Ryan Richards (212-1991) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists for Yamaguchi in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Tachikawa moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Yamaguchi and Veertien Mie. Tachikawa will play against higher ranked Saitama (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Yamaguchi will play against the league's second-placed Iwate (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
Fourth ranked Saitama (24-6) crushed at home 15th ranked Shanan Utd (8-22) by 17 points 97-80, which is the biggest margin this round on Sunday night. The best player for the winners was Ryan Watkins who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. Joshua Crawford produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Saitama have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 24-6 record. Shanan Utd lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fifteenth position with 22 games lost. Saitama will meet at home Tachikawa (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Shanan Utd will play against Shinagawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 29: Iwate won against Veertien Mie on the opponent's court 76-66. Bottom-ranked Shinagawa unfortunately lost to Toyoda in a home game 72-82. Toyoda managed to beat Shinagawa on the road 99-86.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 21 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists by Yasin Kolo of Toyoda.



Veertien Mie - Iwate 66-76

Very expected game in Yokkaichi where 11th ranked Veertien Mie (9-21) was defeated by second ranked Iwate (26-4) 76-66 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was American forward Kristian Doolittle (201-1997, college: Oklahoma, agency: Pensack Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Beninese power forward Muusa Dama (207-1996, college: EIU, agency: Blacktop Management) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Tucker Haymond (198-1994, college: W.Michigan) produced 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and the other American import Eugene Artison (206-1995, college: USAO, agency: One Motive Sports) added 18 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Iwate have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain second place with 26-4 record behind leader Shizuoka. Veertien Mie lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the twelfth position with 21 games lost. They share it with Yamaguchi and Tachikawa. Iwate will meet at home Yamaguchi (#14) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Veertien Mie will play against Gifu and hope to secure a win.
