B3 League Round 46: Okayama beat higher ranked Iwate

The Regular Season in B3 League is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 11 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game with biggest difference of round 46 was host Okayama's (#7) victory at home over 4th ranked Iwate (26-15) 104-96 on Friday evening. Okayama forced 20 Iwate turnovers. Strangely Iwate outrebounded Okayama 42-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. 32 personal fouls committed by Iwate helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Chris Olivier (202-1992, college: OK State, agency: Octagon Europe) fired 31 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Nigerian forward Chukwudiebere Maduabum (206-1991) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Okayama's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Terrance King (198-1990, college: ESU) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 16 rebounds for lost side. Okayama maintains seventh position with 22-11 record. Iwate lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 15 games lost. Okayama are looking forward to face Saitama (#8) at home in the next round. Iwate will play against Tokyo HT (#9) and is hoping to win this game.

Matt Bonds had a triple-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 17 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side C.J. Gettys responded with 16 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Nagasaki (33-3) have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Nagasaki maintains first position. Shinagawa at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourteenth place with 36 games lost. Nagasaki will meet at home bottom-ranked Kanazawa (#15) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Shinagawa will play against Yokohama EX in Tokyo and hope to secure a win.

Rest of the games of round 46 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:

Toyoda recorded a loss to Aisin AW on the road 73-85. Tokyo HT crushed Kanazawa on its own court 108-67. Nagasaki smashed Shinagawa in a road game 105-71.

Shizuoka dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Gifu's 38. Shizuoka forced 20 Gifu turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Argentinian forward Alexis Elsener (195-1988, agency: Interperformances) scored 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and American center Ryan Stephan (208-1994, college: CMU) chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Shizuoka players scored in double figures.
