B1 League Round 26: Chiba J. lose to Ryukyu GK- January 3, 2021
There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Hiroshima D. - Akita NH 70-72 There was no surprise in Hiroshima where 10th ranked Dragonflies (4-22) were edged by fifth ranked Akita Northern Happinets (17-9) 72-70 on Saturday. Akita Northern Happinets forced 19 Dragonflies turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Alex Davis (206-92, college: Fresno St.) who scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. The former international swingman Takatoshi Furukawa (190-87) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Furukawa is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Venezuelan center Gregory Echenique (206-90, college: Creighton, agency: Pensack Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit) added 17 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Akita Northern Happinets have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toyama G. Dragonflies lost thirteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the tenth position with 22 games lost. Akita Northern Happinets will have a break next round. Dragonflies will play again at home against Akita Northern Happinets (#4) and hope to win that game. (21-5) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Ryukyu GK (19-7) 80-70. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Ryukyu GK outrebounded Chiba J. 45-29 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American power forward Jack Cooley (206-91, college: Notre Dame, agency: Pensack Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 21 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). The other American import point guard Jordan Taylor (187-89, college: Wisconsin, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 11 points and 7 assists. American Anthony McHenry (202-83, college: Georgia Tech) produced 8 points and 7 assists and naturalized American guard Louis Kurihara (188-96, college: Whittier) added 11 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Newly promoted Shinshu BW keeps the fifth place with 16 games lost. American swingman LJ Peak (196-96, college: Georgetown, agency: Pensack Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 4 assists (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). International forward Ryan Rossiter (204-89, college: Siena) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. American forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) replied with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Takumi Saito (172-95) added 8 points and 8 assists in the effort for Diamond Dolphins. The best player for the winners was American forward James McAdoo (206-93, college: UNC, agency: Slash Sports) who scored 20 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The other American import center Charles Jackson (208-93, college: Tenn Tech) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. Hitachi Sunrockers' coach Tsutomu Isa used entire bench in such tough game. Serbian power forward Stevan Jelovac (208-89, agency: BeoBasket) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds and point guard Shuto Terazono (165-94) added 13 points and 8 assists respectively for the guests. Hitachi Sunrockers have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 18-8 record behind leader Tochigi B. San-en NeoPhoenix lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 21 games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will face again San-en NeoPhoenix (#9) in Hamamatsu in the next round where they are favorite. American forward Robert Carter (206-94, college: Maryland) notched 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Masaaki Morikawa (190-92) supported him with 18 points. Even a double-double of 24 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists by American forward Jordan Hamilton (201-90, college: Texas) did not help to save the game for Shiga L-Stars. Niigata A. dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Kyoto H.'s 30. They outrebounded Kyoto H. 44-22 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American-North Macedonian power forward Richard Hendrix (203-86, college: Alabama) who scored 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.
