Superleague Round 22: Gorgan edge Kouchin by two points

The most exciting game of round 22 in the Superleague took place in Gorgan. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Kouchin (7-4) to first ranked Gorgan (10-1) 88-86 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Kouchin. The former international center Meisam Mirzaei (210-92) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. International Mohammad Jamshidi (199-91, agency: BIG) chipped in 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international Matin Aghajanpour (199-1, agency: Domantay Sports) produced 30 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) for lost side. Gorgan have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 10-1 record, which they share with Chemidor. Kouchin at the other side keeps the fifth place with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Important game to mention about took place in Sirjan. Fourth ranked Zob Ahan (8-3) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging much higher ranked Sirjan (8-5) 76-75 in the game for the second place. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Sajjad Mashayekhi (180-94) who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!). Arsalan Kazemi contributed with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Russian guard Anton Ponkrashov (200-86) replied with 19 points and 7 assists for Sirjan. Zob Ahan have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Newly promoted Sirjan dropped to the third position with five games lost. They share it with Kerman. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Bottom-ranked Niroo Zamini (0-13) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 73-69 loss to seventh ranked Khouzestan (3-6) in Tehran on Sunday evening. Arash Sabeti scored 28 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Pouya Yakhchali responded with 29 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Niroo Zamini's coach M Shokrolahi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Khouzestan moved-up to sixth place. Loser Niroo Zamini still closes the standings with 13 games lost. There was no surprise when 7th ranked Naft Abadan (3-9) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Kerman (8-5) 100-83 on Monday. Kerman shot 60.3 percent from the field and made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Kerman outrebounded Naft Abadan 37-23 including a 28-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Isaiah Williams (188-95, college: Georgia St., agency: BIG) scored 24 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists (made all of his seven free throws) to lead the charge for the winners and Igor Shomakov chipped in 24 points and 6 rebounds during the contest (made all of his eight free throws). Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side the former international swingman Saeid Mohammadi (187-92) responded with 16 points, 5 assists and 4 steals and the former international Reza Ranjbar scored 13 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
