Superleague Round 18: Chemidor beat Rafsanjan in the most crucial game of the week

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tehran. First ranked Chemidor faced 3rd ranked Rafsanjan. Host Chemidor (9-1) smashed guests from Rafsanjan (6-3) 76-55. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rafsanjan. Chemidor forced 20 Rafsanjan turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Hamed Hosseinzadeh (186-87) who scored 16 points and 4 assists. The former international guard Navid Rezaeifar (185-96) chipped in 13 points. At the other side the best for losing team was British Robert Gilchrist (206-90, college: FSU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Chemidor have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-1 record, which they share with Gorgan. Rafsanjan at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Zob Ahan and Kouchin. Chemidor is again looking forward to face Rafsanjan (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Rafsanjan will have a break next round.

It was a good game for American-Guinea-Bissau point guard Perry Petty (185-88, college: UTRGV) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Christopher Evans contributed with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Siamak Torabikhah (188-92) replied with 27 points and 5 rebounds for Kerman. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gorgan (9-1) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position, which they share with Chemidor. Kerman at the other side keeps the fifth place with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Bottom-ranked Niroo Zamini (0-11) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 93-57 loss to fifth ranked Zob Ahan (6-3) in Tehran on Saturday evening. Arman Zangeneh had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. The best for the losing side was Reza Sabagh with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Zob Ahan moved-up to third place, which they share with Kouchin and Rafsanjan. Loser Niroo Zamini still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 18 Foolad defeated Sanaye in Tehran 82-75.



Sanaye - Foolad 75-82

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Sanaye's (1-7) home loss to seventh ranked Foolad (2-7) 75-82 on Saturday. Foolad forced 21 Sanaye turnovers. The former international guard Emad Salmani (188-90) scored 18 points and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Payam Kiani chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Foolad's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Ukrainian center Kyrylo Fesenko (215-86, agency: BIG) with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks and American guard Julian Jacobs (193-94, college: USC) scored 17 points and 5 assists. Five Foolad and four Sanaye players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Foolad maintains seventh position with 2-7 record. Sanaye lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with seven games lost. Foolad will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Sanaye will play again against Foolad (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

American Christopher Evans (203-91, college: Kent St.) contributed with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Petty is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market.
