IBL Round 6: Satria Muda defeat Hangtuah

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Hangtuah (5-1) in Jakarta on Monday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Satria Muda (4-1) 85-67. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Hangtuah. Satria Muda dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Hangtuah's 28 and made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Hangtuah 47-26 including a 38-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Satria Muda looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for the former international Arki Wisnu (187-88) who led his team to a victory with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard William Tinsley (198-97, college: Illinois St.) contributed with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American center Anton Waters (200-93, college: WKU) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for Hangtuah. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Satria Muda have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with NSH. Hangtuah at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with Dewa United. Satria Muda is looking forward to face Bali Utd. (#6) in Denpasar in the next round. Hangtuah will play against Bumi Borneo (#15) and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a home loss of first ranked Dewa United (5-1) against eighth ranked WBS (3-3) on Monday night. Host Dewa United was crushed by WBS in 93-73. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Dewa United. American guard DMonta Harris (196-97, college: Midwestern St.) scored 22 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Michael Kolawole chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international Jamarr Johnson (198-88, college: Widener) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. WBS maintains eighth position with 3-3 record. Dewa United at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost. They share the position with Hangtuah. WBS will play against Evos Bogor (#9) in the next round. Dewa United will play against Pacific Caesar (#16) in Surabaya and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bumi Borneo's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after five consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they edged much higher ranked Bali Utd. Even 22 points by Lutfi Koswara did not help to save the game for Bali Utd.. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Bumi Borneo (1-5) left bottom position moving up to fourteenth place, which they share with Bima Perkasa and Pacific Caesar. Loser Bali Utd. dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with Prawira. Bumi Borneo will meet at home league's second-placed Hangtuah in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Bali Utd. will play against Satria Muda (#4) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 6: Pacific Caesar was beaten by Evos Bogor on the road 70-64. Rans Pik lost to Bima Perkasa on its own court 53-57. Satya Wacana unfortunately lost to NSH in Jakarta 69-80. Prawira rolled over Tangerang at home 77-44.
The most impressive performance of 6th round was 17 points and 12 rebounds by Richard Ross of Tangerang.

Bali Utd. - Bumi Borneo 70-71

Bumi Borneo's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after five consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they edged much higher ranked Bali Utd. Even a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds by center Hal Heyward (200) did not help to save the game for Rans Pik. Jalil Bassit (193) added 7 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Bima Perkasa left bottom position moving up to fourteenth place, which they share with Pacific Caesar and Bumi Borneo.
